Pork and sauerkraut is a northeast tradition.

After the pork and sauerkraut dinner as a pre-teen, I went next door to hang out and watch football and the italian mother, insisted that i have a couple of strands of sauerkraut for "good luck".

Pork and sauerkraut is a northeast tradition.

Down here in South Florida it is LECHON. Basically pork with CRISPY skins on top of rice. Love it. We had it last weekend and I am hoping my in-laws make it available again tomorrow. (I take care of Thanksgiving turkey (smoked) and Fourth of July and Labor Day barbecues. The in-laws take care of the food for Christmas, New Years, and Easter.

Spiral-cut Brown-Sugar Ham, Sauerkraut & Garlic-Mashed Potatoes for us, maybe some sort of greens or a salad (tried to do Black-eyed peas once, but met with utter failure) — & we used to watch the “Mummers Parade”, but they’ve kinda lost the magic on that ...

The reason PORK is the meat is that hogs always root forward and forward is for prosperity.

We used to have rice and black eyed peas and cornbread.

Pork might be on the menu but as ham or smoked or fresh sausage.

Tennessee thing maybe.

Maybe you do. My family tradition is bean and ham soup, using the leftover hambone from Christmas dinner.

Black-eyed peas and hog jowl.....except none of the stores are selling jowl this year. You can get every other part of the pig, but no jowls.
