Be thankful for any kindness your spouse does. And tell them that you are thankful. Over look any way that it might fall short of perfection because you are imperfect as well.
But when something goes undone and it comes back to bite the family in the wallet and the spouse asks "why didn't you remind me?" a small scream of frustration is, perhaps, in order.

For years, we have argued over our taxes, she doesn’t think it’s a big deal that she under withholds on her paycheck/pension, because I’m the tax expert and the interest rate is lower than credit card debt.
This year, I’m changing the way we do things, whether she likes it or not. I’m going to get the IRS off our backs by the end of next year.
