3 Ways Nagging Hurts Your Marriage (And How to Stop)

Do you nag your spouse too much? Most of us do it occasionally. Sometimes we do it out of love or concern. “You shouldn’t stay up so late. You know it makes you irritable.” Often, though, we do it because we’re unappreciative. “Did you really forget the carrots at the grocery store? They were on the list!”

Lately, I’ve found myself in the second camp. Yes, I really did nag my husband for forgetting an item at the grocery store instead of being thankful that he went so I didn’t have to go out in the cold. I may have also mentioned that he doesn’t clean out the dishes well enough before he washes them. I have even complained about him sleeping during the day even though he works at night because I was so frustrated with our opposite schedules. And I’m embarrassed.

Nagging never helps a relationship. In fact, it can hurt your marriage in serious ways.

The South Park guys are amazing artists with a stupendous work ethic. I can’t even imagine. IIRC, after they did “Team America, World Police” with the mannequins they swore “never again!”, it was that intense.

My wife says that I never listen to her, at least I think that’s what she says.

The other day I was watching tv and my wife said to me “Have you listened to a word I’ve said” and I thought well, that’s a funny way to start a conversation.

I don’t nag. It serves no good purpose and irritates both husband and wife. I’ll mention only once to my husband that I would like something done. If he doesn’t do it, I figure it’s not that important to him. If it is important to me, I’ll just do it myself.

Undoubtedly, you have a very happy marriage!

I’m assuming, though, that when you do it yourself you don’t then sulk around for a week because he didn’t do it.

The remedy for nagging is selective hearing loss

“Wait, what? I can’t hear you….”

“why didn’t you remind me”

One of the benefits of getting old is that when you fake forgetting something you can get away with it.

My answer: “I forgot”!

I do not understand why women feel they have the need to nag their husbands.

The desired task at hand they wish to be done would get done so much quicker if they only never mentioned it. When they nag to a man to "paint the garage" or "clean the attic", etc., it will never get done in a timely manner because a man never wants to have a reputation of being henpecked.

Also, I highly recommend the women to get out of the house for the day once in a while when the husband is off and at home. They should plan a day with their friends to get their nails done, shop for dresses and then have some umbrella cocktails together at a local eatery.

Just tell their husbands they will be out of the house the entire day.

An amazing amount of chores will magically get done when the man is by himself without a wife hovering over him.

This is so true. You can tell me what to do, or you can tell me how to do it. You don't get to do both.
