CNN) The House January 6 committee is withdrawing its subpoena of former President Donald Trump as it concludes its work. "In light of the imminent end of our investigation, the Select Committee can no longer pursue the specific information covered by the subpoena," Chairman Bennie Thompson, a Mississippi Democrat, wrote in a letter to Trump's attorney Wednesday obtained by CNN. "Therefore, through this letter, I hereby formally withdraw the subpoena issued to former President Trump, and notify you that he is no longer obligated to comply or produce records in response to said subpoena," Thompson added. The committee subpoenaed Trump in October for documents and testimony related to its investigation into the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol. Trump responded by suing the committee to block the subpoena. The committee had already dropped a number of subpoenas related to other witnesses as it winds down its work. Still, Trump seized on the subpoena withdrawal on his social media platform, claiming: "They probably did so because they knew I did nothing wrong, or they were about to lose in Court." The committee wrapped up its investigation by referring Trump to the Justice Department for potential criminal prosecution on four separate charges. The panel's referrals, however, hold no legal weight. And the Justice Department has already been scrutinizing Trump as part of its probe into January 6 and efforts to overturn the 2020 election. A spokesperson for the House committee declined to comment.

But they read by candlelight and it’s said Jefferson took 3 weeks to travel to congress and 3 weeks back.
There is simply NO way they could foresee the impact of mass media on the electorate. Much less the invention of television, surround sound etc.
That is the Achilles heel of our system, who ever controls the media controls the minds of a good portion of the people. We will never have a free and representative democracy until news/entertainment is delivered without propaganda.

Bennie knows his committee had no subpoena power to begin with. It was all a bluff and Trump called it.

It’s worse than that. There are many, many people - even here on FR who actively defend fake news narratives. They are far from oblivious - they are malicious.
I had another pointless back and forth with a certain FReeper who “believes” Biden won in 2020 - Hobbs won in AZ - there was no evidence of election malfeasance - etc..
I’d like to think he is oblivious, because then perhaps he could be educated - but the relentless dodging back and forth, and the quick deployment of Leftist talking points, straw men and other logical fallacies convinced me otherwise.
We are surrounded by malicious trolls who are either paid $$ to infect every media platform with their poison - or compensated in some other way.
The narrative is that we lost - we will always lose - and there is no hope. Nobody is going to come along and resurrect MAGA - not President Trump, not Keri Lake - nobody.

The problem here is...when the Democrats do all this “investigating” the media is all in and only reports good things about the committee members and their “findings”. When Republicans do their “investigating” the media reports nothing but how mean and ridiculous the committee members are and how they are “conspiracy theorists”. The media drives the narrative and the left drinks it all in like the reporters are big truth heroes. The Republicans would basically be wasting their time on investigating Pelosi and the rest because nothing will ever come of it.

It’s interesting you said that about the paid trolls. I just read yesterday someone else write Ukraine is very active in paying agents to infiltrate forums in the west and sway opinion. I know the Chinese have been doing that for a while, Harvard even did a study.
