Fortunately, it is all above our pay grades. ;-D
It’s there..................
On the Earth, for sure. But there is no evidence that life, capable of interstellar travel or not, exists (presence tense) elsewhere.
Thus one can only speculate about the probably of extraterrestrial life. When such speculation tries to increase such probability (especially for extraterrestrial intelligent life), it runs into Fermi's paradox.
The remaining question is simple: any carbon-based water-dependant sentient group (who either likely partially or completely merged with silicon-based devices, as the singularity will occur here on Earth long before interstellar travel), achieved interstellar flight, did they come here, or did they ignore us, or are they running the clock?
You roll that into Clarke's Law #3: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", and now you are left with the last two hypos: They are either ignoring us, or they are running the clock until X-Day.
Occam's says ignoring. Despite all the breathless bullshit articles about how extraterrestrials want our resources, any carbon-based sentient lifeform that has either partially or completely merged with silicon-based engineering, has zero need for Earth's resources. And then no need to interact with US.
But Murphy's Law, rather amazingly, still applies. And accidents happen.
Looks like this is the earlier version to which this new link alludes.
