Why? Rommel was a hero to the surviving German Army. Hitler ordered him either killed or allowed to commit suicide for his actions in the July 20 plot to kill Hitler and organize a military coup over the SS and other element of the evil State.

Rommel is hero-because they know and have known the truth of what he did to little lunatic Austrian corporal who brought down their country for Socialism. Not Germany but a pagan, moronic meme ridden nothing to do with German history— a fake JUNTA which had many Generals murdered to protect Hitler. Another- Admiral Canaris who was executed in a concentration camp right along with Dietrich Bonhoffer.

The autocrat Hitler reminds many of JoeBama the Socialist Banker of Delaware who doesn’t love this country at all. Him and his pal Obamaumao (Mau Mau were in Kenya, and Mao- a Chinese psychopathic Communist. These tell who obama is and will always be, along with corrupt as hell.)

Sorry, Red Badger— the rewrite of the posted from GP has the wrong word throughout. Not the grammar police— but appreciate the history being even noticed, despite the verbage. This is the continuation of the removal of American history by truly stupid, and intentional Communist interlopers. Arlington is filled with many as said- descendants of Confederate officers— who served honorably in the US military in two world wars. Including General Patton, and his son.

I can't believe the stupidity of some people on here. Just them showing up in a thread drops the I.Q. of the thread by half 🙄

Tell me the difference between the war for American independence and, the war for southern independence from a legal point of view.

I suppose they needed a relatively clean hero, and Rommel fit the bill. I will not begrudge them that.

But it’s worth noting that Rommel had no problem with Hitler until Germany started to lose. So I don’t see Rommel as quite as pure as others might.

Back in the day when we celebrated 160 years of tradition unhampered by progress, the Corps of Cadets would have resigned en masse.

What are they going to do with Arlington National Cemetary?
That was originally the home of Robert E. Lee.

Wrong— Rommel always had a problem with Hitler, especially after N. Africa. As all the Prussian aristocracy generals did against the loonie little pervo corporal from Austria.

The Prussians who love their country largely had issues with Hitler. He fired a lot of them, and executed many including Klaus von Staufenberg, and the entire regular Army generals in the July 20 Plot. Total of 5000 people were murdered in and out of civilian offices, and the rest all inside the Wermacht and a few SS even. It is an amazing, bold and brave thing they tried— to save their country from destruction, by Soviets and the Allies— so they could treat with them. This included Admiral Canaris the spymaster genius.

Robert E. Lee’s picture should remain there. It’s history plain and simple.

That being said the south fought to preserve that “peculiar institution” called chattel slavery. Robert E. Lee fought for the south. Lee was wrong and I am glad the south was soundly and completely defeated. The south was punished for their wickedness and its part of American History.

I will agree that Rommel had trouble with Hitler after the defeat in North Africa. And I will also agree that the July 20 conspirators were incredibly brave men.

My point was more about the motivation of those men. Yes, some of those generals were repulsed by the Nazis, and were against Hitler from the beginning. But most of them were okay with Hitler until he started losing. Only then did they start plotting against him.

The July 20 conspirators wanted to make peace with the Western allies after they took power. They would give up France as part of that agreement, but not Poland.

That was very unrealistic on their part, of course. It’s telling that they wanted to keep all of Poland, which was gained by Hitler’s aggression.
