CBS ^ | 26 Dec 2022 | GINA MARTINEZ

Southern California is set to experience a drastic drop in temperatures on Monday while a powerful winter storm is expected to hit Northern California starting late Monday and bring several inches of rain and heavy winds.

An atmospheric river, or a weather system that moves high concentrations of water vapor outside of the tropics, could on Tuesday bring up 1 to 3 inches of rain to the coastal areas, with higher elevations receiving upward of 3 to 5 inches, the National Weather Service told CBS San Francisco. The atmospheric river could be as strong as a Category 3, with a scale that tops out a 5.

"Locally up to 7 inches are possible over favored peaks and higher terrain ....

some weather maps forcast this will affect British Columbia, Washington, Oregon and down into most of California. This could end up as snow or sleet in the northern reaches.

“Now we have categorized atmospheric rivers on the loose!”

Oddly enough the term “atmospheric river” is not contained in the NOAA/NWS glossary,

The Left creates new terms and words about ordinary things to instill fear into us so that we may run to them for protection and salvation.

Bombogenesis is my new fave Weather Word. Oooh, scary.

Expect that term to be retconned. The left does this all the time, I think this is actually a form of gaslighting that they do.

Polar Vortex, now Atmospheric River. When normal people point out this is a new term, they’ll point to these supposedly old articles on the internet, containing the term, that nobody ever seen before, but have dates that are indeed pretty old.

Then the normal person is supposed to feel uneducated and dumb, because you didn’t know about the term Atmospheric River. Because the deep state published a bunch of ‘old’ articles while you were asleep. I mean, how hard is it to just put a date on an article that’s old? Faking stuff is easy. They are masters of it, especially hate crimes.

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area. In the 1960s I remember nonstop rain in November and December some years. In the 1970s there were some drought years. Also, in the 1970s, it was so cold it snowed in the Menlo Park, Palo Alto, Redwood City area (with the snow maintaining on the ground). Global Cooling was all the rage. Global Cooling morphed into Global Warming. It ceased warming, so Climate Change was created, then Climate Crisis. I could probably write a Grant Request, and title it Globull Crisis, and the wackos would fund it as long as I promised to predict doom and gloom.

The days of describing weather changes exclusively as seasons, fronts, and storms is over. The term “atmospheric river” comes from more detailed satellite imagery and data models that make it possible to project that relatively thin filaments of atmospheric moisture will lead to precipitation in some places but not in others nearby. Blame the popularity of that and other new and flamboyant weather terms not on the Left but on meteorologists trying to explain to the public what is happening in the skies in greater detail.

But - But - But, I thought the fear was from that ‘Globull warming’ and the oceans rising and the Polar Bears starving and the Emperor penguins dying and the deserts drying up.

What’s so wrong with calling it a rainstorm rather than these new ominous sounding terms the neo-pagans conjur up to create fear and anxiety of global warming?
