Petraeus 'Divorced From Reality' Vis-à-Vis Ukraine: Col. MacGregor
Trends Journal ^ | Dec 26 | Gerald Celente

Posted on 12/26/2022 1:40:34 AM PST by RandFan

Petraeus has been defeated in both the Afghan and Iraq wars.

Col. (ret.) Douglas MacGregor was critical of David Petraeus’s assessment of the Ukraine War and said it seems that the former top general is “divorced from reality.”

MacGregor appeared on Jude Andrew Napolitano’s “Judging Freedom,” and was shown a recent Petraeus interview on Fox News. Once again, Petraeus tried to describe a losing effort by the Russians.

“He’s [Putin] tried everything that he can that would be domestically palatable — mobilized additional forces — it’s not going well…they aren’t training or equipping them adequately at all,” Petraeus said.

MacGregor said the kindest thing he could say is that Petraeus is divorced from reality.

“Once again, David Petraeus has embraced this fictional narrative,” he said. “And that’s part of what he’s going to do because he is the product of the very people that are trying to push us into war with Russia now. They pushed us into Iraq and Syria and Afghanistan.”

He continued, “He’s just sort of punching his ticket as a member of the in-club with the status quo. And that’s the status quo that’s ruling us in Washington. They are largely divorced from reality. Russian forces are not poorly trained…they’re very well trained.”

How did the Iraq wars turn out? Total devastating victory in short order.

But let’s pretend they were all “goat herders”and our military didn’t take them off the map.

Likewise we controlled Afghanistan.

You want to equate the post war administration of the countries with stellar performance of our military.

Then let’s take a look at your variant Russians one year into a war that was supposed to take two weeks.

The problem with modern warfare, at least the way we fight it, is that there was a Second Battle of Fallujah.

I don’t know, Rome never really when into Afghanistan, but Alexander the Great did and his forces held Afghanistan for about 300 years. Granted there where lots of rebellions and lots attacks on the Greeks, but the Greeks did hold it.

he is a retired US officer without access to information on current conditions in a foreign military.

Yeah he does. Friends and former colleagues who are still active have rather interesting conversations when out on the links. So do their "contractor" friends.

Lots of people do not realize just how successful the Roman Empire was. Constantine split the Empire in two to make it easier to govern. The Western half was over run around 500AD but the Eastern half lasted into the 1400s. That is damn near 2000 years. Only Egypt and China (maybe Babylon/Persia) can claim a longer run and Egypt did it in a much less hostile environment.

I Can’t say much about China as the history of the far east is not my thing.

A very insightful observation. But there will be no third battle of Fallujah, the USMC made sure of that.

Let’s get something straight: Our military were NOT defeated in Iraq or in Afghanistan.

The Romans ruled Gaul for 500 years. That’s longer than most nations exit.

MacGregor is the one divorced from reality here.

A ‘’well trained’’ army doesn’t go into combat blind drunk on it’s ass.

A ‘’well trained army’’’ doesn’t press gang it’s male citizens from 18 to 60 at gun point into it’s ranks.

As a friend of mine says opinions are like butts everyone has one and they all stink
With that said everything I say is opinion and I am more likely to be wrong than right but when people like macgregor say such outlandish things like 400000 ukes dead…. One has to wonder what is he smoking or who is paying him
True no one knows for sure but one can look at all the information and perhaps come close.
Cranked 6000 uke tanks destroyed
Kazan Russian economy is doing splendid….
Macgregor ukrs lost 10 months ago

Are you a Prophet, mass graves and torture chambers? Seriously? Russia is fighting to keep NATO from encompassing them completely, then bulldozing them into oblivion. Ukraine is fighting for the big bucks. Of course not the grunts, they never get what they wanted. Zelensky will be a superstar living in Miami chasing babes. The people of Ukraine will be clearing rubble for generations.

Democrats didn’t give away a victory. It was the plan from the beginning, of both parties. From WW 1 to today. It is always about setting up the next money making oppo.

Ukraine has liberated over half of the territory Russia temporarily took with its 24th February invasion. In every place they liberate they find mass graves and torture chambers. Russians even tortured children. It’s the Russian way.

Ukraine has no choice but to keep fighting. To stop would be suicide... first thing Putin would do is ship any survivors to Siberia to eliminate the Ethnic group entirely, and replace the population with Russians.
He wi’ll hand out the land to cronies.

My strategy would be to pull back, concentrate your forces, negotiate some type of settlement, and fight guerilla war of hit and move, bleed the Russians like the Mujahadeen in Afghanistan did and wear them out.
