PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — A repair technician working on a Florida woman’s phone found an “explicit video” among her files and made a copy for himself, authorities said.
According to a news release from the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office, Cody Austin Terry, 28, of North Port, was arrested on Monday. He was charged with accessing a computer or electronic device without authority, WINK-TV reported.
According to the sheriff’s office, the victim took her iPhone to an I-Fix store in Port Charlotte and left it with the suspect for approximately two hours to be repaired. Deputies allege that Terry browsed the woman’s files and discovered an explicit video saved to the device. Terry then allegedly texted the file to his phone, the sheriff’s office said.
The next day, the victim discovered the sent text message and noticed the video had been deleted from her device, the sheriff’s office said. She made a report to the sheriff’s office, and detectives traced the text to Terry’s phone, The Miami Herald reported.
After speaking with a detective, Terry allegedly agreed to allow a search of his phone, the sheriff’s office said. He also allegedly guided the investigator to a hidden file on his phone where the video was located.
Terry also signed a waiver to allow deputies to download the contents of his phone. They verified that the file had been sent from the victim’s phone number while the device was in for repairs, deputies said.

“THe law says unauthorized access to a computer or device.”
Obviously you have not read the applicable Florida statute.
Take it wherever you please. But save all of YOUR stuff on the micro SD card. Pics, vids, ringtones, Messages, backups, etc. and remove it before dropping it off for repair.
Exactly
I can’t even get it to the point where it will let me transfer it
Tried a USB cable to the PC. Phone isn’t booting far enough.
Inquiring minds...
Nobody likes you.
Grow up.
Maybe I will; maybe I won’t.
Still won’t change the fact that nobody likes you.
It’s not as bad as Geek Squad. A few years ago they were supposedly combing through PCs they were supposed to fix — and reporting to the Feds. (I don’t know if it’s true.)
“Still won’t change the fact that nobody likes you.”
Your wife may disagree.
HA! First time I’ve seen you act like an actual human being on Free Republic! Congrats! :^)
The guy was SO worried about his cell phone.
“Well, we can get a judge and a search warrant but all that takes time. If you just let us take the phone now you'll get it back a lot sooner.”
“Okay - like when you're done with it? An hour??”
“Well, it won't be an hour, but as soon as we look through it to make sure you weren't texting or anything you can get it back.”
It was of course weeks later after he “let them look at it” that he got it back. In the paperwork he signed, because no warrant, the cops could look for ANY illegal activity that was on his phone.
Did you try to reset back to factory?
Well it will wipe the phone, yes?
That is a last recourse but I don’t want to lose everything.
If the operating system could just be reloaded. That may not possible. I hope it is but haven’t fooled with it or taken it in yet.
I’ve tried their help menu at boot. None of it could get past the corrupted sections.
It kept complaining about running out of memory. Apparently the operating system got trashed.
It will do a minor boot and then one can’t proceed.
I can’t even turn the phone off when that happens. I have to let it keep rebooting, on its own, until the battery runs out of power.

I had a problem like that years ago. Removed battery, replaced and let it charge overnight.
That’s what it looks like to me also.🤨
It’s worth a try. It’s an Android but from a couple years ago.
There’s another that worked fine but I wanted this (now corrupted) phone. So I idled that phone for almost a year.
It (the idled phone) was fine ........ until I resurrected it. VERY BAD on voice, text and internet connection. A complete waste of time to even try to call someone.
Finally found a comment (elsewhere) where they suggested:
1) Power the phone off
2) Remove the SIM card
3) Wait at least 30 seconds
4) Reinstall SIM card.
5) Reboot the phone.
By golly it worked on that phone.
I may try similar with this phone after your suggestion. I’m fairly-certain it has a removable battery. I’ll have to charge it up first.
I received this email today.
Should I pay?
I do not have a camera hooked up......
Hi there!
I am a professional hacker and have successfully managed to hack your operating system.
Currently I have gained full access to your account.
In addition, I was secretly monitoring all your activities and watching you for several months.
The thing is your computer was infected with harmful spyware due to the fact that you had visited a website with porn content previously.
Let me explain to you what that entails. Thanks to Trojan viruses, I can gain complete access to your computer or any other device that you own.
It means that I can see absolutely everything in your screen and switch on the camera as well as microphone at any point of time without your permission.
In addition, I can also access and see your confidential information as well as your emails and chat messages.
You may be wondering why your antivirus cannot detect my malicious software.
Let me break it down for you: I am using harmful software that is driver-based, which refreshes its signatures on 4-hourly basis, hence your antivirus is unable to detect it presence.
I have made a video compilation, which shows on the left side the scenes of you happily masturbating, while on the right side it demonstrates the video you were watching at that moment.
All I need is just to share this video to all email addresses and messenger contacts of people you are in communication with on your device or PC.
Furthermore, I can also make public all your emails and chat history.
I believe you would definitely want to avoid this from happening.
Here is what you need to do - transfer the Bitcoin equivalent of 950 USD to my Bitcoin account (that is rather a simple process, which you can check out online in case if you don’t know how to do that).
Below is my bitcoin account information (Bitcoin wallet):
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Once the required amount is transferred to my account, I will proceed with deleting all those videos and disappear from your life once and for all.
Kindly ensure you complete the above mentioned transfer within 50 hours (2 days +).
I will receive a notification right after you open this email, hence the countdown will start.
Trust me, I am very careful, calculative and never make mistakes.
If I discover that you shared this message with others, I will straight away proceed with making your private videos public.
Good luck!

Tell them you deposited money for them via FTX and Alameda Funds.
No wait. Don’t reply.
“1) Power the phone off
2) Remove the SIM card
3) Wait at least 30 seconds
4) Reinstall SIM card.
5) Reboot the phone.”
Yes. I remember now that I removed both the batter AND Sim card. In think I replaced the card after fully charging and rebooting but it has been years.
