Daisy Ridley is firmly cemented in the Star Wars universe thanks to her role as Rey, but the actress struggled to secure roles after appearing in the space opera movies.
The 30-year-old star appeared in the most recent Star Wars trilogy, starting with The Force Awakens in 2015.
After becoming one of the new faces of the multi-billion-dollar Disney-owned blockbuster franchise, one would think Ridley would have endless job offers, but she has revealed that wasn’t the case.
Following the release of the final film in the new trilogy, The Rise the Skywalker in December 2019, Ridley struggled jobs-wise in the following months before the Covid-19 pandemic took hold.
"Weirdly, at the beginning of the year nothing was coming through," she explained to Entertainment Weekly, describing the months after The Rise of the Skywalker’s release. "I was like, 'Aww! No one wants to employ me.'"
She added that 'there were actually loads of things that I auditioned for at the beginning of the year and didn’t get any of them'.
"I had that moment of 'Oh my god!' and then just thought 'everything in it’s right time,'" she said.

“of”
Adam Driver (Kylo Ren) has been getting work since the sequels.
She was the Hayden Christiansen of the 3rd trilogy. Bad dialogue, for sure, but the acting abilities of a 2×4. BB-8 had better emotional range.
Same was with dipwad Mark Hamill. He essentially disappeared after Star Wars and didn't surface again until he started ranting about Trump on Twitter.
None of the actors in the Star Wars films were worth a damn outside of Sir Alec. It was actually the main underlying thread of the entire series.
Life of an actor......the next gig is never guaranteed and never has been...unless it’s in writing.
Also she doesn’t check the racial checkbox.....and if she’s not gay her next gig may be in a paper hat asking if customers want fries with that.
The movies sucked more than she sucked as an actress, though she was not good. Unfortunately, here “acting” is on display for 3 bad movies so it is going to be a while before she gets another shot at any movie or role of real significance. She’s fine with cash I’m sure.
net worth $9 million. Buy 2 houses around the country LA, Hawaii, NY - where you like and a small farm in the midwest. Drop $5million in the bank.
Well you wanted to be an Actor
Walmart is hiring.
She shouldn’t have gotten the Star Wars job in the first place. Nepotism is no guarantee of quality.
I could barely get through VIII and never bothered with IX even tho' I have seen it scheduled on free TV now and then. I did like Rogue One, but like many people who were basically little kids when Star Wars came out, we grew up and the franchise is just beyond stale now, as is a lot of SciFi/Fantasy/Comic Book stuff.
However West World could have gone on for a couple more seasons, IMHO.
She's 30 years old and has 40 acting credits on IMDB. Clearly, she's getting work.
Can she run a CNC lathe? I need someone good on a lathe?
Hard to know if it was her or if that was how she was directed to act. On the other hand, Oscar Isaac, who played the pilot Poe Dameron, was great and has had lots of roles, including Duke Leto Atreides in the new Dune and starred in the Marvel show Moon Knight. Seems like a pattern with Star Wars where the supporting characters are better than the stars. Han Solo was better than Luke, and Obi Wan was better Anakin.
Sorry, his acting was atrocious. Whether he has any other talent than in the those 3 horrible cash-grab films I don’t know.
Agreed. Adam Driver was a good actor playing a lousy role.
Mark Hamill has actually had a successful career as a voice actor.
Disney made a big mistake with the sequel trilogy. The only good prequel was Revenge Of the Sith.
