CHARLESTOWN - COVID-19 cases are on the rise across the state. For Lorraine Hemingway of Carver, it's her 12th time contracting the virus. Now she'll spend her third Christmas without her family.
She says she specifically misses spending more time with her grandchildren. "I look at them and it's almost like they got used to me not being around," said Hemingway.
The first time Hemingway tested positive was in 2020. In 2021, she contracted the omicron variant. Since then, she's dealt with long COVID, a nickname for those who've had an acute case of COVID with long-term symptoms. "I've never been the same," she said.
Despite being fully vaccinated with two boosters, Hemingway suffers from brain fog, headaches, and loss of balance. She stays away from seeing her grandchildren to keep them safe.
"They're all little and I'm missing their recitals, I used to go watch them play hockey and soccer," said Hemingway.
She just finished her second round of Paxlovid treatment. Dr. Shira Doron from Tufts Medical Center said Paxlovid rebound sometimes results in a positive test result.

I don't want to get COVID and get sick. And I sure don't want to die from it.
There is a saying I am fond of, being ex-Navy:
"A warship in a harbor is a safe warship. But that is not what warships are for."
I paraphrase that to say:
"A human quarantined in a house wearing a mask may or may not be a safe human being, but that is not what human beings are for."
If I have to live the rest of my life wearing a mask and avoiding other people, screw that, it is not how I am going to live the rest of my life, whatever remains of it.
The only thing testing positive for Covid does for the unvaxxed in the U.S. is to give us a reason to say why we are not getting the jab. It is recommended to wait three months to get another jab after one tests positive.
So I make sure to test positive every three months, whether I actually take a test or not.
People aren’t really safe in their homes. There is such a thing as indoor air pollution, clots from sitting around too much, slippy throw rugs, etc.
I think she should stop getting vaccinated.
People think they are safe ensconced in their own homes with a mask and nobody else around...I agree it doesn't mean they are, but...they think they are.
Just maybe she doesn’t want to spend Christmas with her family.
She’s had enough shots that she no longer HAS any natural immunity.
Your statement was broad enough that it referred to EVERYONE’s natural immunity.
That simply isn’t true.
