Nutty Date Ping!......................
My mom’s was always great.
This post kinda rambles a little bro. Lol!
I just baked the last of my Christmas cookies and I do Not want to look at anything dessert for a while!
Well, it is nutty!....................
I have yet to see that movie.....................
Was given a recipe and have made it since 1955. Love it....
Share?...........................🤔
If you enjoy spy movies and shows from the 60s/70s and spoofs, you will probably like it. There’s a lot of spoofing of early Bond, with a good bit of Matt Helm and Flint in there, too.
I aim to see it one day....................I assumed it was like Get Smart...................
Banana nut bread or nothing for me, with real butter

Love Dates - and anything baked with dates - but especially love date shakes, a speciality out in the California desert.
Had some date cookies over the weekend from a local bakery, I’ve found cooking with them not easy b/c they’re so sticky -
I always have some in the fridge - to grab for something sweet instead of cookies.
Time to round up the family and make a pilgrimage out to the desert for date shakes and to re-supply my stash.
 Try freezing them.................
I’d celebrate dates, or nuts, or bread, but I’m not going to celebrate all three. Pick a lane!
It draws from Get Smart a good bit. I thought that the first Austin Powers movie was hilarious, the second pretty good, and the third only had its moments (but worth a watch).
As a kid, my mom would get it in a can. Would serve it with cream cheese. Yummy.
Gladly! Sorry to be so late with my reply but was busy with a friend taking care of an outdoor faucet for me with the freeze forecast here in GA..He thought I should let it drizzle but because there are erosion problems on the property, that didn’t sound so good to me. He decided to go to Home Depot and get a “whatever” to cover the outside faucet. Of course, HD was fresh out as was the local hardware store. Sooooo - he ended up going to the subbasement to turn off that water. Have my fingers crossed. He wouldn’t let me pay him so I told him I’d pay him when I call him to come back next year to turn it back on for me. Good friends can’t be beat!!
DATE NUT BREAD
2 cups sugar
2 3/4 cup flour
1-1/2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 Tbls. melted shortning (probably vegetable oil today)
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1 cup walnuts
1 pkg. (7 oz) pitted dates
1 3/4 cup boiling water
Pour boiling water over dates - let cool. Mix other ingredients, add date mixture last.
Loaf pan - 350 degrees- 45 minutes - 1 hour - 2 loaves
Grease loaf pan - I switched to aluminum loaf pans as the years went by - still greased them.
Check with toothpick same as with cakes etc.
Don’t think I ever questioned the 1 1/2 tsp. soda - now it’s confusing to me...I think it means 1 and 1/2 tsp...I just made it for years without thinking about it - must have worked ok.
