With my recent interactions with the airlines, honestly that not happening every day at every airport in the us shows how chill and under the thumb of the TSA the us population is.
The cancelations this week are going to be legendary just for the constraints of defrosting the airplanes during a 4 day holiday weekends.
If it is driving vs flying vs amtrack, out to 1200 miles and you already own a good car or SUV.... drive it.
I am in rural Central Texas. If I am going anywhere that I can drive to in 12 hours or less, then I drive. If it will take two days to drive, and I don't want to spend two days driving each way, then I will fly. I used to fly all the time, but after 9/11 the extra time it takes stopped being worth it. I have not had to fly anywhere since the COVID shutdowns.
Amtrack is not really an option here in Texas. There is Amtrack service (and I am using the word "service" loosely) between the major cities, but it takes far longer than driving.
