Dad had an interesting story about the cold in the Colorado mountains little valley they lived in. It would get cold cold in the winter and the cold would settle down in the valley. 30 degrees below zero was not unusual. Then a storm would blow through blow all that cold air away and raise the temperature 50 degrees to around 20 degrees.

I lived for several years in a little valley on a western slope in the northern Rockies and when we would get those sudden temperature rises it was pretty much a guarantee we would be buried in snow within the day

We’d also get weird inversions where the cold would settle into the valley and 5000 feet higher it would be 20-30 degrees warmer

Never totally adujiste to that
