IMO for animal bedding, oat straw is the best. Soft, not too dusty and the stems are wide and flat, make excellent bedding. Wheat straw not so comfy or warm.

I’ll see if I can find some of that locally next summer and get ready for next winter, if she’s still with me. I prefer straw for her. She suffers terribly in summer when our hay is being mowed. It’s not a good option for her.
