I’ll be 70 next year. I was raised by old people, and my father and grandmother grew up only knowing the ‘Ice Box’ - so I grew up calling it that, too.
I was an adult before I taught myself to say ‘refrigerator’, after I began to realize that people didn’t know what I meant :-)

That’s one of the advantages of being old I have found. The youth today think we are dumb by not understanding what they say to us, either. Course the level of not understanding changes with where you are. City kids only know ice that is hanging off their single unit attached homes (townhouses). Country kids are getting closer to them with the advent of phones and pads. This is why they spend so much time in the basement and don’t get dirty. And a little honest dirty is great.
