When I was in undergraduate school in the 1950s, a woman who was in one of my classes invited me to dinner. At the time, I was interested in oriental languages. Her husband tried to recruit me into the CIA after I got my BA, but I said I wanted to go to graduate school. After three years at Columbia and two years in the army, I was looking for a job and contacted the agency; but they weren't interested. I did work for a number of years abstracting scientific articles for another government agency before I went back to school and got a PhD in a science.
