That’s what happens when you give a “hand out” as liberals love toway. People get spoiled and belthey are entitled......at our expense BTW.
Instead of a “hand up” as many on the right believe is the real American way.
Let’s see, they hid people from Cabrini Green when Soetero was running.
They hid people from Newark when booker was running and it was rumored that he actually lived in NYC.
And the one guy that tried to do anything about it, who sent someone to live in one in NYC to identify issues, was run out of town.
It seems so strange that these massive public housing projects , in cities such as New York and Chicago , utterly failed in their mission.
The cities are run by liberals, and providing the public housing expresses the liberal compassion of providing poor people a place to live.
And yet the condition of these public housing projects would seem to contradict the liberal compassion that was supposedly expressed in providing that housing.
If your “dream” is to have the government provide you housing, then you better enjoy nightmares, accept whatever you get, and/or wake up to the reality that Uncle Sugar Sam is all talk, because he does not have the purpose to provide you housing!
That is not the purpose of a single, solitary portion of the government unless you are in a socialist country - PERIOD!!
Although she has drawbacks, the author Amity Shlaes did a good job in the book Great Society:A New History.
In the leftist LBJ dream of socialist housing, mainly about the Detroit ones, she chronicles how the dream turned into a nightmare. The ghetto residents finally were terrified to go into the hallways due to rapists and abductors, had mold and vermin in the living areas and pests everywhere. “The Projects” became a bad term in Detroit and NYC and the residents and people in nearby areas cheered when many were demolished.
It is not for a lack of funding.
NYCHA gets more than enough funding.
There is tons of waste, corruption and vastly expensive bureacracy and bureaucratic rules.
I think it is not just NYCHA but a NYC large apartment complex management, public and private that has a lot of the same problems.
I know of one large private apartment complex managment team that rcently took three separate workers with three separate work orders for a small standard repair of a toilet. The first worker saw the problem but said they could not do the needed work, they were “only a handyman” and the job needed a plumber. The second man was qualified to fix the initial problem, and he did, and he noticed another issue that required immediate attention. But he did not have the needed tools and parts for that additional reqauirment, so third work order had to be made. Given the general nature of most toilet repair problems, you’d think they would always just send a fully qualified person with a cart that contained the tools and parts most often needed, and do most any toilet repair job in one visit. But not in NYC apparently.
