The new mayor of Los Angeles, Karen Bass, said Sunday her administration will start moving homeless people from tent encampments into hotels and motels through a new program that launches Tuesday. […]

On her first day as mayor of Los Angeles, Bass declared a state of emergency on homelessness. She vowed to get people housed and more housing built so that residents can see a real difference, which hasn’t been visible despite billions spent on programs to curb homelessness, including $1.2 billion in the current city budget.

Bass, a Democrat and former congresswoman, has said she intends to get over 17,000 homeless people into housing in her first year through a mix of interim and permanent facilities.

An estimated 40,000 people are homeless in Los Angeles, a city of nearly 4 million. Homelessness is hugely visible throughout California with people living in tents and cars and sleeping outdoors on sidewalks and under highway overpasses.

Bass said outreach workers will try to coax people indoors. People are homeless for a variety of reasons, including mental illness, addiction and job loss. …

I remember when Katrina hit and the government put up a lot of people in hotels for months after. Almost all the hotels had to be gutted and rebuilt after, they were trashed so badly that they couldn’t be opened again until they were remodeled. I can’t imagine how badly a bunch of homeless people would trash a hotel.

They already did this on Skid Row. It ends up with more drugs, deaths, and everything else.

I was based in Boston for a short bit in the 90’s. There was a shortage of short term affordable places that crew members could afford there. A woman ran a type of boarding house where you could stay so many nights for a set fee and I jumped at the chance to stay there.

For about 6 months it was only crew members - of course all vetted with our jobs and had criminal checks as well as just knowing we were safe with each other. UNTIL, she let a woman stay who wasn’t a crew member because ‘she asked nicely’. The woman went from room to room and stole from several flight crew members as well as ate food that others had paid for. Many of us refused to stay there after that - what if it had been a man who could have easily raped or molested a flight attendant who was there all alone? There were many nights I was all alone there and there would have been no way for anyone to know who an unvetted person was. Goodbye hotels in LA. You got exactly what you voted for.

Unvetted, unwashed criminals and druggies will roam the halls looking for an easy mark. Room service personnel will be accosted as they attempt to deliver food, prostitutes will solicit anyone and everyone, drugs will be openly traded for sex and whatever they can steal from everyone. Anything nice in the hotel will be stolen or destroyed. Bedbugs, lice and general sloth will be the norm.

Just awful.

Look for a mass exodus of good hotel chains. Those buildings will become shiite holes.

The rooms will be trashed.
Expect wiring to be ripped from the walls for scrap.
Anything that can be pried loose, will be.

#3: "Katrina hit and the government put up a lot of people in hotels for months after. Almost all the hotels had to be gutted and rebuilt after …"

To get rid of the bedbugs and lice and roaches, they are going to have to burn it all down.

Observations:

1) She treats the symptoms and not the cause.

2) Housing homeless in hotels invites more homeless.

3) It takes a special kind of stupid to be a democrat.

A mayor cannot just order an owner to give up their buildings to anyone let alone alcoholic and drug addicts!
The hotels and motels will be damaged beyond repair.
They will become skid row hotels and motels.
