This DC party invite shows all the money to be made off the Ukraine war

The Ukrainian Embassy hosted a reception last week in honor of the 31st anniversary of the country’s armed services. Events like this are part of the social calendar of Washington’s smart set, with hobnobbing diplomats, think tankers, journalists, and US officials. Guests took photos with the Ukrainian ambassador. Even Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley showed up.

No one wanted to talk about the party invite, however. A senior official from the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington confirmed that the companies’ logos appeared on the invitation but declined to speak on the record. They directed me to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, which did not immediately respond. Lockheed declined to officially comment and deferred to Ukraine House, an embassy-linked entity that was also listed on the invitation. Raytheon also declined to comment. Emails to Northrop Grumman and Pratt & Whitney were not returned.

It’s just like in racing where the sponsors logos are plastered on the race cars. Only this is billions in taxpayer money.

War is Big Business, and for the MIC, business is BOOMING.

Never mind the tens of thousands who are KIA, maimed, TBI’d and PTSD’d.

We tried a new church on Sunday. At the top of the bulletin, “Pray for Ukraine”. Why not pray for both Ukraine and Russia? The citizens of both need a lot of prayer; their governments suck.

We didn’t know the church is SBC until we say Annie Armstrong offering. [sigh]

I gather SBC is Southern Baptist Convention. In just the last few years the Methodists have split, and the Catholic Church is cleaving fast. The Episcopalians have jettisoned all heterosexuals, and the Presbyterians have their own problems. The Lutherans have their crazies. Are the Baptists next?

“Are the Baptists next?”

There has always been a wide range of Baptist factions because we don’t have a hierarchy. Every church is independent. There is no overseeing entity.

There are like-minded churches that can form into groups to support each other, but there’s no governing body. SBC is big, but each church within it is independent. No authority (except God) assigns pastors to churches; the churches “call” their own pastors.

There are some Baptists that are “out there” and some that are strictly conservative. So I guess the Baptists won’t be “next” to split, as the character of the denomination always has been split.

So you are telling me that the Baptists don’t have seminaries? It’s every pastor for him or herself?
