Far-Left L.A. Mayor Karen Bass: I’m Moving The Homeless ‘From Tents To Hotels Or Motels’
Daily Wire ^ | 12/18/2022 | Ben Shapiro

Posted on 12/18/2022 4:20:13 PM PST by simpson96

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said over the weekend that she wants to eliminate the homeless encampments that are plaguing the city’s streets through the state of emergency that she declared on her first day in office.

Bass made the remarks during a Sunday interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press” with host Chuck Todd.

Bass claimed that 95% of the city’s 40,000 homeless people would accept taxpayer-funded public housing if it was offered to them.

When asked by Todd if she would allow LAPD and sanitation officers to continue doing sweeps of the encampments, she said, “no” and that she wanted to put the homeless people into hotels.

“No, these are not sweeps at all. This is getting people to move on their own, but then after the person leaves sanitation is absolutely going to have to be there,” she said. “No question about it. But this is not coercing people. This is not ticketing people or incarcerating people. This is moving people from tents to hotels or motels.”

I don’t know how any government can just take over private property like that, in a free country, that is. Once the hotel businesses are destroyed, they will probably cry about “hotel deserts.”

What I’m thinking. Libs love putting people up in other people’s property.

I think they’ll designate hotels slated for demolition. Only now they won’t have to pay the demolition companies.

And they are going to just commandeer these hotels for the homeless? Paying government rates for the rooms so that the owner is losing money each day? No one else will then stay there so it become defacto government housing. Once they have stayed there a few months, the place will be a roach-ridden, bed-bug infested trash dump for which the owner will never be appropriately compensated.

What next? Does the government tell the local Kroger that they have to provide groceries at the price the county dictates? Do the restaurants have to provide free meals? Clothing stores, free clothing. Physicians already have to provide free medical care. When will this end?

When you enable and subsidize behavior, you get more of it. When you tax labor, production, and services, you get less of it. Why does our government insist on doing things in reverse of what they should be done?

Apparently, this mayor is a fantasist. Consider that promise broken before it even gets out of the gate.

I don’t know how any government can just take over private property like that, in a free country, that is...

As the owner of a few rental properties in the People's Republic of Oregon, my properties were taken over by the government for Covid, and have been taken over by statewide rent control, which also includes "just cause eviction". If a tenant becomes undesirable over time, I can no longer require them to leave.

There was never even a thought of compensation for the taking of my property.

Taking over a few hotels is child's play for these politicians.

.....and unlimited room service for all.

Warren Zevon made it work at the Hotel California, by climbing in and out of his room window when he needed to scratch an itch.

Though the great man did make up for it three or four decades later, when he stopped in at all the places he had ripped off years ago...ripped them off or tore them up.

The owners tended to wave off the payments, and take his autograph as full payment.

He was greatly greatful, you might say.

You are right; once the homeless loose their usefulness it will be mass burials in the desert.

Dems are masters of
intentional stupid ideas
leading to
intentional terrible consequences cuz they are reconstructionist commies who are committed to tearing down our Republic and replacing it with a tyranny with them as the rulers.

Ha.

Yes. Likely your version is more accurate.

Decades of studying politics only this year did I hear the phrase “Curley Effect” - which refers to a politician intentionally destroying a city to drive out the folks that would vote against him. Essentially what Dems have been doing to the major cities and, by controlling the major city, they control the entire state.

Doesn’t matter what happens in rest of Georgia if you own Atlanta, own Philly, etc. etc. State by state.

The present result is what I have called City States. The American Republic has degenerated into a tyrannical mélange of City States.

As you have noted, the riff raff controls the cities and the cities in turn control the states.

Freepers commonly call out the wisdom of the founding fathers.

While the founders solved the problem of representation by creating the House for the people and the Senate for the States, they did not envision the growth of the coalition of city states. The City States are run by various versions of corrupt consensus that rely on the inherent wealth to persist.

Other than a war, there is no hope of the American Republic returning to the original concept and good health

I’m intrigued.

How is that the Islam model?

They usually splinter away to form separate states/political entities.

Thanks for responding.

Governors stepping up and appointing officials within the corrupt cities to clean up elections and crime due to an ‘emergency status’ might do it.

A limited nuclear exchange taking out a dozen of the major cities as they’re all controlled by Dems would do it.

Or a spiritual revival with the - let’s admit - mostly black populace voting 95% for Democrats coming to know Christ and rejecting the party that hates God and His laws would do it.

Dear Mr. Fedora Blackburn Indigo, I’m opposed to all calls for political violence and violent actions.

Especially now that we see the DOJ is a wing of the DNC and it, along with our military, are now completely under globalist control.

Remember, we read The Book. Globalists take control with a one world government promising peace and... you know the rest of that story.

For the west, a totally destructive earth quake will do the job. That is the only salvation for the former state of California

Re: Governors........ they owe their job to the cities. Governors will be no help

Plus, the court system has been exposed to be corrupt. They’d also have the MSM bashing any steps as ‘racist’ as these are black-controlled cities being sold for payola to the black politicians. We’ve seen with Detroit, people will vote for Dems regardless of what a complete wasteland the city becomes. Their incompetence just causes people with means to move out giving them further control and continuing the death spiral.
