And it is possible that these senior Pentagon officials aren't in the loop of what the Pentagon knows.
I remember Lue Elizondo speaking of how senior aides to Gen Mattis would tell underlings that Mattis didn't need to know about "UFOs" and they had no intention of letting such chatter reach his desk.
