My Mom just called me from Abilene, Texas, and said she thought she felt a slight earthquake. I told her to call the police to see, and we also pulled up the USGS website. The website and the police confirmed that the quake was felt in Abilene that happened NNW of Midland. Anyone else feel this?

You’re in the “remains not recovered” zone when the Big One finally hits.

5.3 mag earthquake? I live 3/4 of a mile from the San Andreas Fault. We scoff at 5.3 Yes, I knew the Left Coast people would weigh in with their cynicism, but this is for those of us who DON'T live in Earthquake Central. A quake in THIS area is rare.

I didn’t realize there were any earthquake zones in Texas. Was this one fairly well known? This area is not an earthquake zone. That's why I posted this.

Dang!
They just had one about this magnitude west of there (south of Carlsbad, NM.) on November 16th.

Not being a wise ass, but how do you think the oil seeps up from deep in the earth. The faults don’t have to be huge, but there are cracks everywhere. Some are just more prone to slippage than others.

During solar minimums = increased volcanic & earthquake activity.

During solar minimums = increased volcanic & earthquake activity. Yeah, well, during Matthew 24 conditions, there's that, too.
