My son has a 4Runner, about 2006 vintage, and you won’t pry it from his cold, dead hands. We’ll, maybe his dead hands….

I review cars and have driven several generations of 4Runner. Bulletproof, terrific off road, stale technology (except for the damn “safety Nannie’s”), but I’d look at it first if I were shopping in that niche. Truck-based (unlike most of today’s SUV’s), and unsophisticated but excellent utility vehicle (no sport, really) that will probably outlast you. Maybe, if you’re buying used, save some gas by going V6 rather than V8, if you have a choice.

I am thinking this one has too much tech for me, but the mileage is prime.
