I can remember when statins came out and Niacin was “deadly to the liver” all of a sudden.

It's niacinamide, not niacin, that's toxic to the liver. Niacinamide is a no-flush version of niacin, but toxic in large doses.

I can’t always spell Nicotinic Acid. Brain farts at times. Niacin is easier.
