Will the GOP nomination for president be contested or what?

What is the latest thinking on here? Will the GOP nomination for president be contested or what?

Trump has announced and I think whether any one likes it or not Ron DeSantis of Florida is going to run. He would not be making the kind of comments or putting out the kind of press releases he is otherwise.

I could be wrong (?).

Rand is also making sure he is in the media a lot. He might be thinking about it. He ran in '16 if you remember.

Others will no doubt jump in for the attention and potential $. I'm thinking others with little chance i.e Larry Hogan.

Nothing is inevitable in politics I have come to know this!

Won’t support or vote for anyone who runs against Trump.

They ruin their careers if they run and guarantee a Democrat president even without needing vote fraud.

I believe the GOP nomination will be contested, yes. As it should be - we aren’t coronating a king, we’re looking for the best possibly employee.

That is your right of course.

I’m just thinking out loud here...

The list is very, very short I grant you. However all they would need to do is win NH and Iowa and all of a sudden they’re on top.

Can this happen? I dont know.

Rand or Ron would appeal in NH, no doubt about that.

Anyone who worries that DeSantis will undermine a Trump run for the presidency by bringing up dirt or going hard on his twitter feuds needs to take a chill pill.

The creatures we have to worry about are the GOPe types that will run as Jeb 2.0. They will certainly hammer Trump on Jan 6, election fraud claims, meetings with "nazis", etc.

DeSantis will most likely sit back and focus on his positive record rather than getting into a pissing match with Trump.

Tend to agree with that. Trump will also have the media against him. This will give a credible challenger an advantage.

It’s interesting for sure.

I dont think anything is inevitable in politics. I have learned this. Buckle up!

Yea, but do we really want a President who gets beat up in his own front yard? I know I don't.

I want Batman.

Yes, it nomination will be contested and competed for, as it should be. Mr. Trump has a lot of solid support, but I suspect less now vs two months ago. Trump appears to be showing a little less political savvy this time vs in 2016.

Several unforced errors. “De-Sanctimonious”, That dinner with Kayne, a mentally unhealthy entertainer who is currently ‘dabbling’ in public Hitler worship and Jew blaming, The vague and unprompted remarks about our constitution. His tendancy to focus on 2020 vs 2024. I understand why, but fair or not fair, the status quo appears to be unchangeable. It’s still early. Donald Trump may regain and surpass his presumed momentum, but it seems prudent to at very least, be aware of the possible choices we will have for GOP candidates.

😊

Youngkin of Virginia is another name. He cannot run for a second term as governor there and as he proved in his election you can’t count him out. He is a good campaigner.

I can’t think of many others that could be competitive.

As I say, the list is short but there is a few....

Some good points. I think the comments about DeSantis were a pre-emptive strike.

If Ron DeSantis jumps in I see him as a credible challenger and it may force Rand’s and others hand to jump in as well.

Then it all begins with NH and Iowa, right?

Ron has said twice he isn’t running unless he is a liar

Can you give me the quotes?

He is (or was) making comments on national issues and is putting himself out there in the media.

Why would he do that...

Maybe he is just raising his profile.

Also, he has a war chest from his last campaign. I doubt he spent it all

Ron has said twice he isn’t running unless he is a liar.

One question:

A.) Is he a politician?

2.) Are his lips moving?

“...but do we really want a President who gets beat up in his own front yard? I know I don’t.”

Rand was blindsided. By a triggered next door neighbor. I wonder if the neighbor is a felon now?

“Nothing is inevitable in politics I have come to know this!”

FDR’s often quoted “nothing happens in politics without a reason” comes to mind.

IMHO, yes, I think a host of Republicans will vie for the nomination but the big dogs will be Trump and DeSantis with a host of other ankle biters. If he’s smart which I think he is, DeSantis won’t get personal with Trump although Trump will try to draw him in. He has too much to lose in the general, if he is indeed nominated, in alienating Trump supporters by going nasty.

Good analysis

No one will get personal. Whoever will run a positive campaign.

DeSantis has a lot of money left over I cannot believe he wont try for it.

Whoever wins the primary has my vote, won’t waste any more time on it, until next year. The Pubbies in the House need to focus on their current job, i.e. using their leverage on behalf of their voters.
