Brittney Griner’s wife called for the release of former US Marine Paul Whelan from Russian captivity, in a heartfelt social media post thanking people for support while her wife was detained.
“I appreciate each and every one of you! Let’s continue to use our hands, voices, platforms, and resources to bring Paul and all Americans home,” Cherelle Griner wrote on Instagram. “All families deserve to be whole!”
Cherelle also thanked dozens of people and groups in the post, including the Biden administration, the WNBA and Rev. Al Sharpton.

Not for long. Griner’s future is all set, and she’ll make millions as a talking head on MSNBC or CNN. It requires no talent whatsoever. I mean, if the utterly imbecilic and racist Joy Reid can get such a gig, so can Griner.

Whelan was trying to play James Bond without the skills or talent and he got caught in a trap that a real James Bond type would easily have steered clear of. The man doesn’t deserve death for his transgressions, but he risked big and caught a charge.
Griner also risked big and caught a charge, at least as stupid as Whelan’s, but she had the advantage of being politically helpful for a news cycle or two.
If Whelan really wanted released in the prisoner swap, he should have demanded release to become a woman, preferrably a minority woman.
