It all comes down to energy. With energy you can make compounds . The elements , with rare exceptions , are eternal but energy turns to useless heat. The sun turns 4 million tons of matter into pure energy every second. Most of that energy just beams out into the Universe unused. We have a long way to go before we have any real shortages.

But it is absorbed by something (I don’t mean Martians and UFOs). There is a big balance going on. If we would shut off the energy from ‘the back side’ of the Sun, so only the Earth gets the full radiation (conserving the Sun, you know—> attention NASA) something ‘out there’ would suffer or change in the Universe system as we know it now.
