^^^ this…
Never heard of them, east coast outfit?
“Yeah, it should be cheaper for a fast food place. But when I say “sit down restaurant”, I mean one with a wait staff. The ones I typically eat burgers at are Applebees, Chilis, Red Robin or some local brewery.”
Sally B’s Cafe in Prescott Valley still sells burgers and fries (or onion rings or sweet potato fries) on their senior menu for under $8. Food’s good and servers are friendly.
I’m more of a Bad Daddy’s burger guy.
yup. I go to the local bar.. better food and cheaper.
There is girls there too ;)
Seems like counter service shouldn't warrant a tip at all ...
but this $3.53 (5%) tip was in Utah, where tipped employees can be paid as little as $7.25/hr once tips are added in (less if student age). The employer can chip in as little $2.13/hr if the tips are good.
So if the counter server is considered a "tipped employee" by 5 Guys, and has the $2.13/hr + tips arrangement, even I might see fit to tip something ... but if that's the case ("tipped employee") the tip pretty much goes to the employer who just charged me $9.19 for a greasy hamburger.
In any case, a counter server that spends maybe 3 or 4 minutes getting an order right just doesn't warrant the same as a table server. The table server is probably spending 10 minutes and more catering to the customer's individual needs.
That’s awesome. Thanks for the info, but I don’t live anywhere near Prescott, AZ.
The bill comes out to $70.10, and claims a $3.53 tip.
The final total is $74.10, which is $4.00 more than the total.
She either cannot do simple math, or she is lying.
Seems close enough to me. Basically no longer giving a now-standard 20% tip to people who are likely making $20/hour, even if no one shows up.
Screw it - as far as I’m concerned if they can’t live on their ‘living wage’ of $20/hour, then they can bitch to their boss for a ‘double living-wage’ if that’s what they really want. But, from my end, I’m done subsidizing their lifestyle.
I think I’ll walk over and grab a nice Carl’s Jr. Bacon Double Cheese Burger and chocolate shake and onion rings. I don’t mind paying $20.00 for that at all.
I still tip too much.
How much is fudrucker’s?
It’s ridiculous
Chick Fil A
Any of them
Feed family of four you’re over 30 easy
Does the article say how the person votes?
That’s correct
We gave it up too
Math is hard......
5 Guys is expensive, but I’m smart enough to guesstimate the bill in my head before I order. The burgers are a little greasy for me - I usually get a hot dog and some fries. The fries are worth the price of admission, and they give you enough that you only need one order for 2 or 3 people.
There are no cheap burgers anymore in President Aqualung’s America, so may as well pay for a good one.
They vary
Bacon cheeseburger in Franklin tn is 10.50 I think
I bought some two months ago couldn’t believe it
Well, that sucks. Maybe the guy can check on his bank balance on the way home and see if his latest stimulus check, housing allowance, grocery allotment, and health care subsidy have all been deposited yet. It is the 10th of the month you know! Then, he will be able to afford the meal at this “highway robbery” restaurant.
BTW, what causes such inflation?
Disagree. The counter server probably spent a couple of minutes getting that order right. Why should the counter person get even a $3.53 tip? If he/she serves even just 10 customers in an hour, that's $35/hr. The restaurant owner gets the benefit: in Utah (this 5 Guys was in SLC) the owner only has to pay the "tipped employee" $2.13/hr as long as the additional tipping lets the counter help walk away with at least $7.25/hr. And by law the tipping cannot be shared with the background employees: food preparers, dishwashers, or cooks. Maybe they are anyway, but I'd bet it all goes to benefit the owner since those "tipped employees" can now be paid much lower wages. "Suggested Tipping" for counter service is a racket ... but in some places it may keep your food from being adulterated.
For table service, a tipped waiter/waitress probably spends 10 to 20 minutes taking care of each table, and may be working for $2.13/hr plus tips in Utah. They do deserve tips on your scale for that 10 to 20 minutes of service, if it's good service.
