The parents probably need money for the child’s care and obviously the creep who did this is not going to be able to pay them. So they’re probably suing the mall because there may have been a security failure … that is, either none at all, or they’d let a lunatic wander around threatening people, etc.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing for them to sue. It might make companies realize that they have to be more careful about security.

Companies can't be "more careful about security." Any security guard who touches a Somali thug -- or merely addresses him in a stern voice -- would be accused of racism and possibly assault.

Look what happened to the cop who arrested St George Floyd.

There's no way security could have prevented this man doing that unless there was someone right there at the time. I think it's too much to expect companies to watch every individual that enters their property and determine who is dangerous and not - especially in public places as a mall.
