Idaho student murders: Haunting theory about vicious killings revealed by father of victim

The father of one of the University of Idaho students murdered in their home last month shared his theory about the murderer's target based on their movements once they got in the house.

Steven Goncalves, who is the father of the late Kaylee Goncalves, noted that the murderer's entry point on the middle floor and only going upstairs leads him to believe it may have been intentional.

"I'm not a professional, so I want to specify that, but they've said the entry point was the slider or the window. It was the middle floor. So to me, he doesn't have to go upstairs. His entry and exit are available without having to go upstairs or downstairs. Looks like he probably may have not gone downstairs. We don't know that for sure, but he obviously went upstairs. So I'm using logic that he chose to go up there when he didn't have to," Goncalves said on Fox News's Fox and Friends on Sunday.

Goncalves would not definitely say if he believes his daughter or any roommates were directly targeted in the attack. He also said he has confidence that law enforcement are doing all they can to solve the murders despite closely guarding details of the investigation.

Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Madison Mogen, 21, and Goncalves, 21, were slain in their beds in Moscow, Idaho, on Nov. 13. The four roommates, who lived on the middle and upper floors, were all stabbed with a large knife in the chest and upper body, per local authorities.

The two surviving roommates who lived on the lower floor, Dylan Mortensen, 19, and Bethany Funke, 19, recently spoke out for the first time, saying how much they missed their roommates and detailed the difficult time they were having processing the murders they slept through.

No suspect or motive has been named in the case yet, and other details about the murders have been sparse as police continue to investigate the deaths of the four students.

My 2 dogs sleep on the bed with me. The have woken up several times when they heard a bmp in the night and started barking. Mean mothers.

One of the girls had a dog, supposedly shared it with her ex-boyfriend. The dog was there during the goings-on and it was not killed. Did it alert? If so, did anyone hear it? If not, why not?

“Not if the killer had no cell phone...................”

Correct. IMHO the killer(s) set out with intent, whether these individuals were targeted for cause or were just unlucky is a tossup. But anyone who’s paying attention knows that your cellphone is not your friend.

It took 5 years to finally get a suspected killer of the two young girls in Indiana, so we’ll see how long it takes the Moscow LEO’s.

Possible, I guess, but that would imply the killer wasn’t personally connected to the target.

Is it certain that the killer was not an illegal alien?

One thing I can’t figure out. Assuming that we have the two girls upstairs and the BF/GF pair on the entry floor. Unless they BF/GF woke up and confronted the killer, why were they involved?

Supposedly the entry floor was floor 2, not floor 1. The killer killed the people on floor 2 and 3, and went back out the same way - on floor 2.

“The killer killed the people on floor 2 and 3, and went back out the same way - on floor 2.”

Yes, my point is that we assume the BF/GF on floor 2 were killed last, and although we don’t have the facts we’re inferring that the BF or both of them confronted the killer.

Two things. If they both confronted, she’s screaming her head off. Not meaning to be crude, but if she her BF stabbed, she screamed. Also, there’s little chance the BF got up without her knowing. Possible he stumbled into the killer while going to the bathroom, but more likely he heard something and got up concerned. My point is that the GF almost certainly had to hear BF and killer struggle.

Now that I think about it, as unlikely as it was, the trip to the bathroom sounds more plausible. Otherwise, I wake up and say ‘did you hear that?’

Next to last point: The killer had to have worn disposable coveralls, booties, and perhaps even a mask. We see no bloody footprints, nothing. The killer HAD to be covered in blood. He did not change clothes outside - he had to change in the apartment.

And finally, they cops HAVE to have DNA evidence from multiple fingernails. Shouldn’t it be easy to rule out the close contacts? Why not after weeks?
