You have an interesting observation.
Ukraine has home ice Advantage. They have shelter, the have wood, they have coal. Russians have none of that.
Did you ever listen to old vets, Russian Germans on the Russian or German side about the winter hell in tanks or on the ground?
All they have to do is just cut off their supply routes and let old man winter do the rest.
I always felt I would rather live in colder climate than warmer. If you’re too cold, layer up with more clothing. If it’s too hot, and you’re already stark naked, ain’t much you can do.
My brother lived in Arizona for several years, but he was stuck in-house for 8 months of the year with AC going 24 hrs/day - and hated it. He later moved to Ohio.
The second law of thermodynamics says the same thing. It’s easier to warm up than it is to cool off.

Vail: 22, last year: 8
Aspen: 31, last year: 8
Park City opened on November 16 with 433% of normal snowpack for this time of year.
Snowbird has already had 91” of snow this season.
The Tahoe areas have snowdepth more consistent with January 1 and that was as of November 25.
It’s been raining all day here on the coast and will snow all thru the night in the Sierra. And for the next week supposedly.
Climate definitely changing.
