You never know who they will stick you with when you're forced two to a room during a hospital stay.
A 72-year-old woman in Germany was arrested after she allegedly shut off her hospital roommate's ventilator...Twice!
Authorities said the suspect was annoyed by the sound of the machine. The suspect switched off the ventilator for a 79-year-old patient. The staff told the woman that it was vital the machine stayed on. Later that evening, she turned off the ventilator again.
The patient needed to be revived and is in intensive care.
At very least, I would want a new roommate if the present one kept turning my air off. Give the older lady a pair of ear plugs connected to music. Maybe she wants to listen to
a special version of “99 Luft Baloons” done with a xylophone.
I went to turn off my hospital roommates ventilator for the same reason once...then found out it was Darth Vader and not a ventilator at all. I just said Sorry Lord Vader.

My MIL has an oxygen concentrator that she occasionally uses, and leaves it running even when she’s not in her room below. Uses it at night.

My mother had the same. It took a while to get used to it and I spent every third day and night with her (siblings and I were on a rotation schedule) for several months. I found myself breathing in rhythm to the concentrator which was totally messing me up. “Breathe in, hold, breathe out”. Also, it caused the entire house to vibrate (wooden floors) so that made it hard to sleep as well.
But, I finally did get to the point I could ignore it. Then, about the time I got to sleep, mother would ring her little bell. LOL. The sisters and I still jump when we hear the sound of a bell ringing. Bless her heart, I will always remember those last few months with her. She hated to call upon us for assistance and always waited as long as she could before asking for something.
Some days she is a blessing, some days she’s a curse.

I suppose several gems of wisdom can be garnered from this. To me one is the irony of thinking everyone old is nice and gentle and they have learned wisdom to be wonderful.
