This whole case is odd, wonder if it is as keystone cops as it sometimes reads? Surprised that only weeks later that they collected the cars from the property. What else have they not bothered to investigate? Is there some type of cover-up under way?

I think the local cops are only in charge of the investigation “in name only”. All four of them.
They brought in the Idaho state police and FBI within a couple days.
I would also think they are coordinating with the WA state police. Moscow, ID is right on the border with WA. Plus WA State University is eight miles away in Pullman, WA.

cops already said they are holding much information back, cause they want to see if someone they question knows something that only the perp would know. Standard way to let the behaviour of the perp give him(her)self away.
