Coal didn’t bring us out of the dark ages. The dark ages were from 456 AD to 800 AD and inky in western Europe, due to the collapse of Roman authority there.

The east didn’t have a dark age, leave alone China and India

That is a relative term. Where was Europe before Rome took it over? Savages. Iā€™d say probably a lot more dark than the time so glibly referred to that way.
