Semi serious question:
Can trees be transgender or binary or homosexual as opposed to asexual?
I’ve been researching trees and shrubs because I have major overhauling to do this spring on the house. It’s large ranch with lots of neglected landscaping. I’m ripping out the overgrown and thinking about what to plant.
I was well aware before that there are such things as male and female trees and to a lesser extent shrubs, but I never appreciated how complicated this gets in order to make sure you get the blossoms or berries you want but can only get if you have a breeding pair or you have a neighbor who has the opposite gender tree or shrub.
Some trees have both male and female flowers.
Some trees are only male OR female.

Land-grant universities and state-run arboretums are gold mines of information on all kinds of trees, shrubs and plants. Many offer plantings at little cost.
If one has the time, visit demonstration gardens or arboretums in every season to see what really happens to plantings over time.
