How much tearing of shirts is occurring in Norman. Their former QB is on the verge of winning of the Heisman. Their former coach is one win away from a playoff berth. Safe to say UGA, Michigan, TCU are all locks for playoff berth. IF USC beats Utah in the Pac-12 son to be 10 championship they are in. If USC loses will 'Bama get the ultimate back door bid??? NO!!!!!!
Go DAWGS....
Will 1-loss #6 USC (before the next rankings come out probably boosting them after their win over the #13 Irish) figure out how to beat the Utah Utes that beat USC by 1 point already in the season? USC's win over the Irish combined by beating the Utes in the Pac-12 championship is liable to give the Trojans the edge over Ohio State.
Then there's 2-loss #5 LSU (before the next rankings come out probably lowering them after the loss to the Aggies), who has to face #1 Georgia in the SEC championship game. LSU winning that would give them the ultimate resume enhancer, even with 2 losses.
Looking now at undefeated #4 TCU. Yeah, they might bump up to #3 this week with Ohio State's loss. But they still have to play #12 Kansas St in the Big-12 championship. If TCU wins, they're in. If they lose to Kansas St, I'd still count TCU in with one loss but 12 wins against 5 ranked opponents.
Then there's #7 Bama (just spanked unranked Auburn), who doesn't play a conference championship game, and has 2 losses totaling only 4 points (both games lost in the last play of the game). Because Bama doesn't play anyone else, they have nothing to add to their resume after their Iron Bowl win. I don't see them getting in with them having only 2 wins over ranked opponents. Certainly not if LSU wins the SEC championship and makes their case as the best 2-loss team. Bama needs Georgia to win the SEC championship over LSU, and for the other top-ranked teams to lose their conference championship games (Michigan, TCU, and USC). Even with that, I don't see Bama getting in without Saban offering the playoff committee free weekend getaways to his lake house.
Looking at the top 4 teams with conference championship games coming up: Georgia, Michigan, TCU, and USC. If #1 Georgia loses to LSU in the SEC Championship game, Georgia will have only 1 loss, but in the whole rest of the season they beat only 2 ranked opponents. Same if unbeaten Michigan loses their conference championship (only 2 ranked opponents in the season). Same if 1-loss USC loses (to make it 2 losses, with only 2 wins over ranked opponents). Unbeaten TCU already has 4 wins on ranked opponents, including Kansas State whom they play in their conference championship. So in the strange event that we have conference championship chaos where all 4 of the top ranked teams lose, IMHO TCU has the best resume to survive it and make it to the playoffs. The other top teams might also survive losing their conference championship game, but not as certainly as TCU would.
I want. UConn in a bowl game. With their basketball teams in the top 10, their men’s hockey team is ranked, UConn is back... Thank you AD Dave Benedict, for hiring Jim Mora as the football coach.
All this speculation is interesting but is strictly for entertainment. What a wild suggestion that Georgia would ever tank the SEC championship. There’s no way any Dawg would even think that way. The SEC championship is a prize never to be sacrificed under any circumstances. Rest assured, the Dawgs will be completely ready to defeat LSU. After that, the Dawgs are looking to and expected to win two more and secure another National Championship. We have no doubt.
Utah is ranked higher than UCLA and Notre Dame! It’s the Trojans only loss, but a must-win in the rematch.
LSU’s loss obviously makes it the clear 4-seed for the playoffs behind Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee
Does UM still get in if they lose to Purdue in the B1G Championship?
#1 Georia vs #4 TCU
#2 Michigan vs #3 Ohio State
