I remember when real people did dress up to fly on an airliner. Your picture is a bit idealized but not far from the truth. Just got off a flight today, people dressed in weird warmup suits, pajamas, some pretty risqué tops, who knows what exactly.
Yes, that does look like a movie set. Plus nobody is smoking or drinking which is totally unrealistic.

And the men would have to remove the jacket, tie, shoes, belt, wallet and hat. If there was metal thread in those pin-stripe pants they’d find out why their mother wanted them to change underwear before they left. Women’s undergarments in the 1950-60s had metal clasps. They’d have to be body searched.
I have no problem with people flying “dressed down” given the hassle that is prerequisite to boarding.
