Elon Musk has vowed to create his own smartphone if Apple and Google ban Twitter from their app stores. Musk announced his plan in a tweet on Friday.
Podcaster and former OAN host Liz Wheeler had tweeted, “if Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should produce his own smartphone. Half the country would happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android. The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?”
Musk responded that he would if that is what it came down to.

“I certainly hope it does not come to that, but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone,” Musk replied.
Wheeler followed up with a Twitter poll asking, “would you switch to a tELONphone? Vote yes or no with your best pun for a name below.”

More competition in the smart phone OS market. Kill Google’s near monopoly on Android.
I seriously doubt they will do it. They both let the “Truth” app on.
Would be an interesting idea, especially if connected directly to his Starlink network of satellites.
Even if Apple and Google ban the Twitter App why couldn’t Twitter build their own App Store with the Twitter app available for download
Alas, that's not how Starlink works. The client devices (phone, tablet, computer) do not communicate -directly- with the satellites. If you think about it, there's no way a phone can produce enough radio signal strength to make it to a satellite.
Starlink operates with a powered "ground transceiver" (sort of a sat-tv dish and electronics), which provides the link between the client device and the satellite.
What this means is if you use Starlink as your internet service provider, you are limited to a small radius around your ground transceiver. That's fine for your residence or business, but useless as soon as you get into your car or take a long walk.

I have owned satellite phones, which can reach a satellite with a signal and are relatively compact. There is even an android based smartphone version of a satellite phone. I grant that the starlink system may not have the capability because it hadn’t been built into the design, but Musk is launching new satellite constellations all the time.

But even with Musk saying this about apple and android phones, to say his phone wouldn’t do any data collection and retention that would be considered ‘snooping’, yeah, it would do some as well.

The Microsoft phone failed even though it was technically excellent. A shortage of good apps did it in. It would be great if Musk were to succeed at this but it would be a long shot. Very expensive and very risky.
I highly doubt the Microsoft phone was technically excellent. I say this as a Certified Microsoft developer who worked with Microsoft technology for 20 years. I suspect they tried to tie it to some sort of weird dot net developer community but I never had any direct contact with their phone stuff
I have left the Microsoft development sphere but your point about lack of apps is spot on. The only way I think they could make it work is if it is an Android fork so that at least the Android apps would work (possibly require a recompile)

I think that was Musk’s way of giving them a warning to not even think about it.
Ok...Lets play “name the new MuskPhone”.
If it is made in America I will buy it....
