"Carnival Valor retraced its route to support the search and rescue," Lupoli said, and the ship has since been released by the Coast Guard and is again sailing toward Cozumel, Mexico. The Carnival Valor had left port in New Orleans on Wednesday.
Receiving a call from the cruise ship at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, the Coast Guard launched a multi-crew search effort by air and sea, Coast Guard Lt. Phillip VanderWeit said in a statement.
After the man was spotted by a crew on another vessel, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew "hoisted the man onto the helicopter," VanderWeit said.
At around 2 p.m., the boat turned around to head back, Anderson said. Passengers were told their arrival time to their port of call, Cozumel, would be delayed, he said. Later Thursday evening, an announcement over the PA system informed guests that there had been a man overboard incident, but the ship had been released from the search and was resuming travel to Cozumel.

i hope he and his sister were not bunking in together.
The King Crab would gave taken their revenge for the seafood buffet.
You don’t wear life jackets on a cruise ship. Life jackets are stored in the life rafts, and would certainly be lost or unavailable if issued to passengers with the understanding that they wear them 24/7. There is a man-overboard device that has a light, radio beacon, and radar reflectors, and is deployed (thrown overboard) whenever there is credible report of a passenger going overboard. If you can swim to the device it functions as a life raft, if not, it guides rescuers to the last know location of the victim.
George Costanza : That’s no tragedy. How many people do you lose on a normal cruise? 30? 40?
A great sea story and a great wedding disaster story!
They don’t fall off
Dr Jim Fowler ?
Life jackets are in every stateroom
Was aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) when a plane captain was working at night on the top (turtleback) of an F-14 on the flight deck that was parked with its tail over water (TOW). The PC lost his footing and slid off the ass end of the aircraft into the water 60+ feet below without being observed. Fortunately, the strobe light on the PC’s life vest was spotted by the destroyer plane guard that was about 1.5 nautical miles in trail and picked up the lucky guy. The carrier dispatched a helo to being him “bok sheep.” No injuries, and the ocean temps were warm. He might have grandchildren by now and certainly a good tale to tell them.

Plus, you get hypothermia in 70 degree water. You lose a LOT of body heat when you are in that water...
All I needed to know was “they were drinking.” After that, all bets are off and anything goes. That’s why the phrase, “Hold my beer and watch this..” is always followed by tragedy.
We had a man overboard after midnight, and another ship picked him up!! Talk about LUCKY!
Yes. Drinking + wet slippery cruise ship + nighttime can equal a bad outcome.
Lucky ducky on Thanksgiving.
Never noticed them. I think you are supposed to wear your life jacket to the lifeboat drill, but I forget. You never wear them or pay any attention to them otherwise.
No one wears a life jacket on cruise ships and there wasn’t time to grab one as he fell overboard.
A Miracle for sure!
Waaaayy too many cases of folks surviving much longer at sea.
JFK in PT-109 for instance.
Nonsense. I spent plenty of time in 60 degree water without losing dexterity. After about 20-30 min. I would swim back in to warm up awhile before swimming back out.
