I suspect this happened to my husband and I about 10 years ago when we tried one of those prepackaged diets with all fake sugar. It destroyed our digestive systems, plus he got a lot of new onset allergies and I got IBS. He finally recovered going on Keto four years ago. We both tried probiotics but they made us both so sick (except I could tolerate water Kefir)

Anyway, I was able to keep on an even keel with IBS with a low carb and low FODMAP diet until a few months ago. I believe I am finally healed of IBS and I think it had something to do with the protocol I took during Covid. I also can digest red meat now when it before caused me digestive distress and a rash.

Sheesh....I’m 73 and know about good and bad intestinal microbes and immunity. The “FLORA” moniker threw me because it’s stupid.

BTW, a gaffer can be one of several things. In England it can mean a boss, other places it can mean an old fart, in TV and film it means chief electrician, etc. Some places it can also mean an electrician

It just ticks me off that the FDA and everybody and their buddy will regulate, control and expound endlessly on things like this but won’t tell you anything truthful about their ‘VAXXINE’....

Cyclamates were banned in the US because the sugar industry paid handsomely for a study feeding rats MASSIVE amounts of cyclamate, These rats (which were of a strain predisposed to have cancer) developed cancer.

Massive publicity, lobbying of congress, and for all I know greased palms at the FDA and viola! Cyclamates were banned.

Is saccharin still a thing? I thought it was banned in the 70s

That was cyclamate, perfect sweet flavor, no after taste, no off flavor notes.

Sweet n Low is saccharin.

I agree. These ‘cancer causing....’ studies are BS. Feed enough of anything to rats so they drown in it and then you can call it ‘causes cancer.’

I believe it - I don’t really do the “keto” thing, but 24 hour fasting daily regularly, 48 hour fast once in a while, and it gives the “gut” time to repair and regroup for lack of a better term among other things, and rest for the digestive system. I drink a live yeast Hefe Weissen now and then to keep my gut flora healthy. Yep, that’s my story and I’m stickin’ with it.

Cyclamates was banned here in the 70’s. I seem to recall having a “Ban Cyclamates” sticker on a school book one time. Didn’t really know what artificial sweeteners were. Didn’t care. TAB was only thing about artificial sweeteners I had any real knowledge of. Man that was nasty stuff.

I drank real coke. Not the new improved version with HFCS. Cane sugar.

Don’t really consume much sugar. I like it fine, but don’t seem to need it so much as to use artificial.

I never liked the taste of those pink packets of sweet n low and remember my grandma thinking it was healthier than sugar back then. She listened to the so called experts lol.
