'It's hell': Fury at 'unfinished, cramped and searing hot conditions' inside the £185-a-night fan village at FIFA World Cup - as Qatar officials 'threaten to SMASH' video cameras of unhappy supporters and stop journalists from filming

Fans flying to the FIFA World Cup tournament in Qatar can expect the fan village to be a £185-a-night unfinished shambles where local officials threaten to smash video cameras of unhappy supporters and stop journalists from filming.

With less than 24 hours until the World Cup kicks off with the opening ceremony and clash between the host nation and Ecuador in Doha at the Al Bayt Stadium, the fan villages resemble construction sites.

Footage and images show piles of rubble and sand, ripped up turf and industrial machinery still on-site at the Rawdat Al Jahhaniya fan village, which will be home to thousands of England and Wales fans for the World Cup.

They needed more slaves to finish it, but too many had already died, and the new slave shipments were overdue because of supply chain issues.

Big money from Arab muslims and plentiful slaves to build it.

“All that - to watch soccer?”

Without those nagging commercial interruptions... sure why not?

Why is soccer so popular around the world?

The only equipment you need to play is a soccer ball. Baseball, football and basketball require other equipment. That costs money. But a soccer ball is all you need in a third world toilet to play, and China spits those out by the millions.

Stick and ballgames. Soma for the masses while the global elites rob us blind and destroy our liberty. Fans get what they deserve. Maybe they’ll give us soccer balls in the gulag.

Having spent time in Dubai...but not Qatar...it seems likely to me that people assumed that they were the same. Dubai is,by Arabian Peninsula standards, pretty liberal. But that only goes so far.

“Others are already comparing the 2022 Qatar World Cup to the infamous Fyre Festival.”

My first thought too, except this place looks FAR BETTER than Fyre. I suspect they could get the AC to work during the day if they simply had a some type of shade on top, kind of like a carport, but then they’d have to build it strong enough to handle the wind there.

Changing the deal at the last minute is a tactic often employed in the muslim world; part of the ‘culture’. Others do it, too, but if dealing with a muslim, one can bank on it. It’s about one-upmanship, not the money.

Two major sporting events in one year, in backwards countries. Dumb.

Only commercials during a soccer match are at halftime.

Actually those containers don’t look like they’re going anywhere. I’m not sure that I could have come up with anything better given the constraints:
1) Total revenue from customers: $6000/unit (30 days at about $200)
2) Air conditioning required even in winter
3) Sun blasting away
4) Likely high wind events

About the only thing that I can come up with would be to pipe chilled water into the rooms for air conditioning (the containers likely act like drums in amplifying the noise from adjacent outdoor compressor units). Of course you’d then need large chillers, but those can be used later for other projects. I’d also insulate them well, although that may already be the case.

“Only commercials during a soccer match are at halftime.”

I use the internet and I stream I have never paid for television. My dilemma.

I always harken back to the days of the big 3 and you could watch all kinds of sports in real time!

That seems to be a thing of the past, unless you pay or subscribe.

Heck, even shortwave radio is all but extinct.

It’s more of a function of the game rules: the clock never stops, and there are no timeouts.
