MINNEAPOLIS -- Sen. Amy Klobuchar said Thursday she would call a Senate hearing to probe Ticketmaster after the Taylor Swift ticket fiasco this week left many fans frustrated and empty handed.
This comes as the company canceled the general public sale of tickets originally scheduled for Friday "due to extraordinarily high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand." Swift fans sought tickets earlier this week with pre-sale codes and credit card exclusives, a rollout that was beset by technical problems.
Klobuchar, who chairs a Senate subcommittee focused on consumer protection and anti-trust, said she also wants the U.S. Department of Justice to investigate. She already sent a letter to CEO of Ticketmaster expressing "serious concerns about the state of competition in the ticketing industry and its harmful impact on consumers," and seeking answers to direct questions about its operations.
She believes the company, which is the product of a merger between Ticketmaster and Live Nation a decade ago, is too big and too powerful.
"There just has to be consequences for this kind of behavior," Klobuchar told WCCO. "Because unlike competitive markets, where you just go down the street if you don't like one store, you go to this store, you go to this grocery store -- you don't have that choice here."

Repeal the 17th Amendment!
State legislatures couldn’t do worse!
Yes, and thought I have absolutely no love for Pearl Jam they were the only ones with ballz to fight. I believe there was much retribution afterward.
I’ve seen this story repeatedly on network news. I wonder how much Taylor Swift is paying them to hype her concert.
The stinking feds don’t have their noses in ALL our business, apparently!
Has she called for any investigations into the nationwide fraudulent elections?
“So if there are more people who want tickets than tickets should the government now compel performers to do additional shows? “
Shush .. next thing they’ll be registering voters at ticket sites or concerts.
Shush
Now do elections
You want to get to heaven you got to raise a little hell?
One of them had Taylor Swift, of whom I'd never heard at the time, on the cover.
My first thought was, What's a 14 year old boy doing on the cover of MAXIM?
How about FTX?
At the very least, Senators beholden to their State Legislatures would have a little more respect for the 10th Amendment.
1. The artificial limitation in the oil supply to drive up prices and force worse alternatives on us?
Or 2. artificial limitation in the Taylor Swift supply to drive up prices and force worse alternatives on us?
Oh, wow. Monumental and earth shattering. Let’s fix this mess NOW. [smh]
Yes the ones that can count that high surely will!
I agree this is not such an important matter for Congress. The DOJ however should have taken action against Ticketmaster and LiveNation a long time ago.
I don’t begrudge them making as much profit as they can, but I am of the opinion that Ticketmaster knowingly runs a predatory monopoly, has policies that encourage fraudulent activity, and looks the other way at fraud and second-hand market gauging (because it benefits them to sell out shows and creating “artificial demand” and the “perception of demand” by seeing second hand ticket prices at 2x-3x or more the face value). That last part may not necessarily be illegal, but surely are imo decisions driven by their own financial interests and not what is the most efficient or fair for anyone but themselves.
Include descriptive pictures.
Don’t have time to audit the money going to Ukraine, investigate Hunter’s laptop or look into the collapse of crypto king. And too busy to send anyone to the border to see in real time the human crisis there. But let some 12-year-old girls not get there Taylor Swift tickets and we’ll get right on it.
Yes Pearl Jam tried. They couldn’t make it work well. They booked independent venues and sold the tickets directly if I recall. But they are a rock band not a concert promoter so you’d have to expect they’d have a hard time handling all that extra work load but at least they tried. They ultimately reached a deal with Ticketmaster to reduce prices on their shows, but Ticketmaster learned that they better get control over as many venues as possible before any other acts tried to do the same - ultimately getting control of LiveNation.
In her defense...she was likely on-line for hours trying to score tickets as a member of the privileged class. She must have really wanted to go to a Taylor Swift concert. /s
Oh priceless, the country and world are imploding before our eyes and klobuchar is worried about Taylor swift tickets!!!…bahahahahaha…
I thought this was the Bee. With that said, I’m more than happy for Democrats to waste their time on this. You get them Amy, don’t put up with this crap!
