I agree with you. She is being used by Putin because of our politician’s stupid obsession with Ukraine, which is just a money laundering operation for many of them. No matter what she said about the US, there is no justification for a 9 year prison sentence for possession of THG vapes. Especially not in a gulag. I don’t even know if she really had them or if they were planted. Well, this is Russia. An easy way to see if this is a show trial versus just the usual comeuppance is to know whether others found guilty of the same crime suffered the same punishment. 9 years for weed is unfathomable in the US (these days) but in other countries, penalties for such a thing are far more harsh, up to and including death.

What I would be really curious to know is how this WNBA star reacted to her arrest. If she pulled the "Do you know who I am you racist white people" thing then she deserves everything she is getting and more.

The Russians have been doing that kind of thing to people long before Ukraine was an issue. Blaming what is happening to Get ner on the Ukraine War on Ukraine ignores that history.
