I agree. Pence was nothing more than a placeholder for four years. I cannot think of even one positive thing he did there. Pence is now trying to slide through based on name recognition alone.

Pence has no chance and isn't a threat to take any of Trump's base anyway. You could even argue that by reporting on all these potential challengers, the media is actual helping Trump by potentially diluting the anti-Trump vote among multiple challengers.

In marketing terms, I think the GOPe is just trying to show that they have a “full product line”. “Need a VP, or Prez? - the GOPe has you covered.” Pence will increase his vocal support McCarthy and McConnell and the rest of the Swamp as the most recent, highest ranking GOP willing to do so.
