Hero German shepherd saves 6-year-old boy from attack by neighbor’s dog

Dramatic footage has emerged of a modern-day Lassie saving its owners’ 6-year-old son from being attacked by a neighbor’s dog charging straight toward him.

Videos viewed nearly 45 million times on TikTok show a German shepherd named Tank initially playing with his young pal in front of their Florida home.

Suddenly, a dark dog races toward them from the top right of the screen — with Tank instantly snapping into defense mode.

As the charging would-be attacker nears, Tank moves the boy out of the way and confronts the other dog.

Tank snaps at the aggressive animal, and follows him until he is at a safe distance — even turning back to make sure the young boy he saved is out of harm’s way.

He was not the only hero, with the family’s other dog, a pit bull, also tearing out to help chase away the threat. The boy’s mom runs out and picks up her son, with Tank joining them for ongoing protection as the attacker is controlled by its owner.

The boy’s dad shared surveillance footage of the incident to the soundtrack of DMX’s “Dogs Out,” getting viewed more than 20 million times by Tuesday morning.

A video shared by the mom also racked up nearly 24 million views. “Our neighbor’s dog randomly charged at my son last night & my Tanky saved him from getting mauled or worst,” the mom wrote, with the video going further and saying Tank saved the boy’s life.

A few years ago we rented a villa in the Caribbean.
The owner lived in a guest house on the property with his Rhodesian Ridgeback.
When we arrived the owner brought the dog to the villa and introduced him to all of us.
The good boy had free range of the property, which we were free to leave doors standing open while we explored the island.
Theft was a problem on that island, but not at that villa!
We all loved that dog, he reminded me of a lion.

Awesome video on DM. I love this and my own German Shepherd. One cannot get the ‘shepherd’ or ‘guard dog’ out of the magnificent canines.

They were very good and protective dogs, and would definitely give their life to save yours. For their mid-size, they were powerhouses and all muscle.

I was looking for some info where it says that they are a very rare type of breed because they are one of the very few that are sight/smell/hearing type of dog. Most dogs only have 1 of those traits (if I remember right). I found part of this info at Wiki: Sighthound and Scenthound (didn't mention hearing).

I found a couple of nice pics, and screencapped a brief description to go with them:

My first dog was a Germsn Shepherd
Dog. It was like having another human there. Incredibly
Intelligent animal. But, like MANY breeds, it needs training, attention, companionship and love. Still miss her. Maybe someday we will meet again I hope.

I worked with a woman that bred ridgebacks. Very protective of their pack, but awesomely sweet when they know you’re an ok person.

article: "footage has emerged of a modern-day Lassie Rin-Tin-Tin".

Absolutely. Collies are not German Shepherds.

My German Shepherd will always be the best, most important dog in my life. She did not like Collies, and I trust her judgment.

Around 1986 I was on a geophysics field crew. One project was just outside Wenatchee, WA, and one of our transmitting locations was on a ranch, in a pasture where there were several dozen cattle and about 20 horses. The ranch owner had two Rhodesian Ridgebacks that roamed the property, and he made sure that we were introduced to the dogs before we started work there. Once the dogs knew that it was OK, they were quite friendly and would hang out by the generator setup most days. I’m sure they’d have been a lot less friendly if they ever thought we were going to harm any of the ranch people or stock.

Great dogs. I’ve always wanted one or two Ridgebacks, but nowadays I’m certain that I couldn’t provide them with the exercise they need.

“Sorry dad...I forgot to close the door completely!”

(as you help him bandage the bite marks!)

This dog was so intelligent that once he was introduced to guests by the owner, we could come and go at will,
but if a stranger came on the property he would challenge them.
The owner said that he was pretty fierce with locals that he didn’t know.
I think this dog must have been on large for a Rhodesian, he was awesome.

Bless you for the direct link. I was going to have to miss the video (although enjoying the comments) but hoping a nice Freeper would post the direct link. You came through. Thank you.

Dogs are God’s angels on Earth. I’ve had many in my life, an Irish Setter, a Shepard Collie mix and a Black Lab.

Without this amazing animal our fight into nature would have been nearly impossible and our continued survival depends on them.
