I am thinking of ordering Highlights magazine for my grandchild. She is 3 going on 4 and I know I loved it as a kid.The excitment of getting her own mail and then looking thru it would be fun and educational. Is it too woke these days?

Some good ideas there .but she is a little young for reading. I will keep your idea of old books (Maybe Nancy Drew) when she is a little older.

I did a sarch on google about their wokeness before I posted this. I am really looking for someone that has seen it and is it that bad? Is there any other magazine like Highlights that isn’t woke? Damn liberals want to wreck everything.

National Geographic has some good magazines for kids your granddaughter might like. “Little Kids” would be for your granddaughter’s age.

I think new Nancy Drew titles are still being published. The later stuff is probably woke, so make sure you get the old editions.

Highlights had stated previously that they believe parents should decide when to bring up the topic of homosexuality. But after backlash from the LGBT community, Highlights committed to including same-sex families in future publications.

Same with Hallmark Films. Five or so years ago (I think), they caved to introducing gay couples.

A favorite LGBT talking point is, "Hate is not a family value."

I’m surprised they’re still around. They are woke if you look at the company website.
Question. Wouldn’t a truly woke company go only digital saving the trees and other natural resources? Na, that would make too much sense with liberal logic

"Buy old books.Buy old books.

I think the old books suggestion is good, but for a 3 year old going on 4 I'd suggest the classic illustrated fairy tales volumes.

For a child that age you might get the most popular of the Little Golden Books; they’re still available on Amazon among other places.

Seeing as how Highlights has gone woke, you might look at the Ranger Rick series if she likes animals. Kids in my family loved it. They have Cub for ages up to four, Ranger Rick Jr. for ages 4-7, etc. You can look at sample issues here:

Nothing woke I could see.

Used to be fun to read Highlights. I’m sorry to see it has gone to the dark side.

Focus on the Family puts out a magazine for 3-7 year olds

You can get one issue to see what it’s like before subscribing.

I remember seeing the story of the haunted Raggedy Ann doll in that mag when I was young and never picked it up again. Must have been mid 1970s. Still scares me to this day.

Q: What do you get when stuff a stone in the mouth of a used Raggedy Ann doll?

A: A dirty old cotton rock sucker.

That's a lot of words to say "Death to Whites!!!!"

I suppose they just don't want to frighten the horses.

Yet.

Just...why?

Is that something you think anyone here enjoys reading?

Disgusting.

9. Try the “Tom Swift Jr” series for the boys. Sci-fi with kids taking the lead in saving the world.

Buy old books. Find them used on Amazon or Ebay.

That's the best advice!

My parents homeschooled me with a massive home library (the whole clan, all bibliophiles). I had kid books that dated back to the 19th c! Old textbooks. Old encyclopedias. No tv or movies except what they carefully selected, and of course I was allowed some access to the computer, but I grew up with the mindset of the early 20th c.

I would add that while it's a thrill to get a magazine in the mail, it's more fun to get a visit from a grandparent bringing a learning experience -- a book, a building set, a musical instrument or a telescope or a radio kit...

If you can afford it. :-)
