A very telling vid, I thought, was one taken by a news crew going in to Kherson. Along with plenty of destruction along the road were some Russian vehicles that the Ukies had hit as the Russians were retreating back into the city. I was trying to figure out what was on one of the blasted, burned out trucks the crew passed by, and then I realized it wasn’t military gear, it was partially cremated appliances, washing machines and refrigerators and possibly a range / oven. Once they stopped the crew found various caches of Russian weapons, ammo (the bulk was mainly artillery shells) and medium and small weapons left behind.
SFAIK, even the Iraqi Army fleeing on the “Highway of Death” didn’t have civilian’s appliances on their trucks.
I thought “Geez, if the Russians had been less interested in looting and pillaging, and more interested in fighting, Kherson might still be in Russian hands...”

To my understanding this is a play on the Russian army using the rune symbol “Z” on their vehicles. It is not a letter because it does not occur in the Cyrillic alphabet.
Z is a rune symbol that can mean “defense from enemies”. Which is the likely intent for putting it on Russian military vehicles.
Thus we see plays on this with ‘Ruzzian’ and ‘RuZZian’ showing up in various media.
If you think about it then it’s not really offensive. Were I pro-Russian I’d probably adopt it myself.

Russia has invaded the Crimean peninsula of Ukraine and taken over its civilian and military infrastructure. Not a shot has been fired so far, but Russia is using its superior force to intimidate Ukrainian troops in an attempt to get them to surrender.
Russia claims it wants to stabilize the situation on the peninsula, which has a large Russian population, but Ukraine’s new government regards the move as an occupation of its sovereign territory.

One of the more humorous parts of this update was Denys reaction to the vid of the Russians making off with the raccoons from a zoo in Kherson.
The US could probably really screw up the Russians by airlifting about 100k raccoons into Moscow... /s
