Vanity: Thank you for your service, but....
11/9/2022 | By Laz A. Mataz

Donald Trump is my favorite President, even more so than Ronald Reagan.

However, I think I’m moving on from him.

I like him in the role of a clarion-calling standard bearer, and his presidency was the best I have ever seen.

I don’t like him in terms of his failure to be a team player. I’m not even sure I like him as a kingmaker. Calling out numbers to make him look good, in a severely-disappointing election shows me he doesn’t care about the boots on the ground, but only how he looks.

Reagan faced the same Establishment hate and Media mocking, but he had a great way of playful rebuttal, with a twinkle in his eye and a little smile. America loved that. All the attacks mustered against him, failed, because he was able to gently turn it around on his attacker with a witty quip or a well thought out fact.

Reagan was also the author of the phrase, the 11th commandment, which was “Thou shall not attack a fellow Republican.”

Trump, on the other hand, has a serious ego problem. He cannot resist getting into a public verbal fight with anyone who criticizes him. While this was fresh and new in 2016, and propelled him into the presidency, it doesn’t work in 2022.

Also, the way Trump fights back is not nearly as good as Reagan’s style. Trump hasn’t got the charm of Reagan, and it’s beginning to hurt our side.

It is for these reasons that I must move on from Donald Trump. Sir, thank you for your incredibly wonderful service in 2016 through 2020. You made those years prosperous and sane. But it is time to move on.

I’m likely to get a ton of flak for this post. That’s okay, I can take it.

I think it is sad that so many are placing on President Trump what should be placed on our RINOs who are actually in office holding power and responsible for fostering and supporting new leaders.

I am in Arizona. While both Lake (Gov.) and Masters (Sen.) are MAGA, Lake was louder and more vociferous about it. She also ran a better campaign. She is doing better than Masters, and much better than Dodson-Robb (non MAGA primary opponent) would have. Whether DeSantis or Trump gets the nomination in 2024 doesn't have a lot of bearing on the 2022 ballot. Lake is still within striking distance running against the person responsible for the voting mess in AZ.

Each race is different, and Masters was on video talking about privatizing Social Security. Trump NEVER did that. So, when they call Masters "Too Extreme for Arizona", they ran that clip on Social Security. That cost him.

The opposition (both party and PAC) mostly avoided tying Lake or Masters to Trump. They ran positive "personality" ads, bi-partinsanship ads, and to a lesser degree abortion ads. Heck, they even pretended to "have a plan for the border" Apparently some bought it.

If we elect abortionists because the country supports abortion, we deserve what we get.

Trump was done the minute he turned his presidency over to the deep staters Fauci and Birx, shutting down the country and giving cover for governors and local governments to essentially run roughshod on the Constitution.

Then he lit the match on the inflation bomb with the CARES Act and Son of CARES.

Then he foisted these ill conceived vaccines on us.

In my mind Trump was done in March/April of 2020.

He spent years railing against the swamp, but turned everything over to the swamp because of a virus that causes a bad cold.

Consider this:

As Clausewitz said: "War is the continuation of politics by other means."

The reverse is also true.

But what happens when one of a county's 2 primary political parties has been brainwashed into embracing an ideology that seeks to destroy the political system of that country?

Do we carry on with politics as usual? Do we carry a knife to a gunfight?

In light of the above, reconsider the kind of man we need as our leader. Perhaps we don't need a president. Perhaps we need a general.

I'm not saying that Trump is or is not that leader. But don't we have to reconsider the kind of leader we need in light of our predicament?

We are at war. Our opponents are not "right honorable gentlemen"! They are our enemies and the enemies of our country and all we hold dear and righteous.

Think of Trump in this light. Warts and all.

I agree with you, 100%. His warning to DeSantis last night was over the top, the last straw. At this point, Trump should take some time off enjoy being an ex president. while he was successful in getting individual candidates into office, overall, we saw a spectacular failure last night. On the positive side, Democrats own the national Biden failure: Inflation, energy, immigration, schools, and return to bias and bigotry that we have not seen in decades. President Trump, thank you and goodbye.

I have seen no obvious posts on this thread that were made by TDSers.

I have seen many thoughtful conservatives who love Trump and if he was nominated again, would vote for him absolutely.

But given the choice between Trump and DeSantis, many would choose DeSantis for the reasons posted.

I was sick hearing this yesterday and I am sick hearing it from you Laz and your groupies.

You will help destroy what is left of this country. May God forgive you….

I'm not a groupie. When 2020 was stolen, I knew Trumps time was over. How old will he be in 2024? 78. He was good for this country but everyone, even Trump, has a "shelf-life".

I am not surprised. This whole thing was a new weird and we should have followed the rule of “If something is to good to be believed, it probably is too good to believe”.

RATs were not really worried until the last minute.

As I watched events unfold on that fateful January 6th, I saw that Trump failed to diffuse the mounting situation. When they entered the Capital Building I knew they had fallen for a set-up. When I saw the door and wall climbing idiots and the podium stealing morons, I knew Trump's goose was cooked.

The hard cold fact is that Trump didn't act in a timely fashion or in a manner befitting the President. By omission, he helped perpetrate that mess. It is actually worse than that: Trump Twittered things like, "see what happens next", "there will be action now", and so on. I don't recall the actual comments; but, I do remember he did not moderate the building frenzy.

You combine this with his constant mouthing off against people who are supposed to be his allies and comments regarding his concern that people will forget his place in the success of the midterms, I see a huge ego at play instead of someone totally committed to his Nation's welfare. He seems to be committed mostly to his own fame and notoriety.

Democrats own the national Biden failure: Inflation, energy, immigration, schools, and return to bias and bigotry that we have not seen in decades.

That doesn't seem to resonate with folks who already receive all their income from the government. They don't care about anything else, and their lives aren't worse off under Biden in ways they comprehend. Ribeye's and Lobsters are the #1 purchases with food stamps.

I believe in America and what she stands for. Trump is the embodiment of the American spirit. I don’t see him as a sin-free, perfect human - I see him as a strong voice with a strong will in the right place to break through the evil that has taken over and is in the process of destroying everything good about America. Our options are limited.

Trump is toxic to key demographics that the GOP needs to win a national election. He won’t win in 2024. DeSantis is the better choice. Hopefully our side eventually realizes this.

"DeSantis took a 50/50 state and made it a 60/40 state that excels across the board. He can do that nationally."

And he can do all that in 2028 after Trump runs and wins his second term...and he could best HELP that effort by being the vice-presidential candidate on a Trump-Desantis ticket in 2024.
