OLED screens can also be engineered to be bendable and malleable, without hindering their performance or causing any permanent damage.
We’ve already seen devices like TVs and computer displays with a permanent curve to better fill a user’s peripheral vision, and even screens that can be flattened back out again for users who want to frequently switch between the two display modes. But LG is working to bring the flexibility of OLEDs to smaller devices, and today revealed the world’s first 12-inch panel that’s both flexible and stretchable, like a giant piece of rubber band, improving its ability to survive wear and tear.
Its underlying structure uses S-shaped micro wire structures that act like springs to accommodate the stretching, and while the technology isn’t quite at the point where you can crumble up a tablet and stuff it in your pocket like a handkerchief—it’s tethered by a ribbon cable to electronics that provide power and drive the image on-screen—LG believes it’s one step-closer to expanding the potential use cases for OLED displays.

A large-screen phone that conforms to your ass?
You know the serious irony of this is that Bob Lazar spoke of this technology in various conversations he had with folks dealing with his working with those ‘secret UFO reverse engineering projects’.
I’ve had a 60in LG OLED curved screen tv for a couple years. It’s a beautiful product.
Went to buy another...they don't or didn't make them anymore. So I got a flat screen.
Now I see/hear they are making a comeback. I was pissed.
I'm thinking of a laptop that resembles a medieval scroll, with the battery and electronics in the roller.
How often does it say, “Hear Ye, Hear Ye?”
Back in the ‘70s, I read an article in TV Guide describing the video discs of the future. They predicted a cost of $2 - $11 (vs. the $20 for VHS blank tapes) , and that they could be rolled up and sent in tubes.
I suppose this might be useful for some but I cannot see it being of great import for me. I have never sat in front of a screen and thought wouldn’t it be wonderful if I could bend or stretch it.
That would be interesting, like maybe a cell phone screen that rolls up into a ball point pen configuration that can be clipped to a shirt pocket…
